I think you have meant good beginning of a married life since you have asked this question in "Marriage and Divorce".

In my opinion both persons should have a clear understanding and avoid egoism and misunderstanding from the beginning. This will lead to a good relation in married life.-

Friendship.... thats what makes a good start to a relationship... and i mean any relation....
Just be yourself and let the other person understand your attitude and nature.... not everything, but just a few things.. which are very important for life and relations....
you have to give space and time to the other person.... be a friend... talk like a friend and think like a friend.....
no relationship can exist without proper understanding and synchroniztion... so first understand each other well as friends,... know views of other person about life.... not by asking, but by observing.....
look forward only when you both understand each other well.... or else you can land up NOwhere....

Spend a lot of time talking about both of you. Let them know what you like, what you dislike and what your values are. If all of that is known from the beginning, it will make a good friendship. Then if there is more to come, just keep on being honest and kind.

Before getting into any relationship you should be clear in your thoughts. Clarity brings faith in the person you like. Be yourself and importent thing is always be frank to any discussion. Tell what exactly you think during that time.

If some one does not like your way, attitude and thinking than you should tell them that today you think so becos so n so reason. Perhaps in the future you will be different. Dont Pretent.

Dont promise which you cant do.

And last but not least if you are not sure about the person than ask immediately. Dont presume things. And once you get into a relationship than be mature in your decisions.
Make sure that your decisions are wise and not hurting ur buddy.
Count her/him in all your decisions.

Trust me doing all that both will be happy forever.

Truth, honesty, and common interests. But you have to like yourself in order for someone to like you too. Be willing to accept the individualness of eachother, find common ground, talk-talk-talk. Communication is key. Check family relationships of the opposite sex...ex. son/mother, daughter/father. if they have a close respectable relationship, it's a good indicator of how they will accept you and treat you.

Talking frankly , hiding nothing and understanding eachother and sometimes giving up to eachother is a good beginning and allways in any relationship, whoever it is.
