Electromagnetic pulse - a surge of magnetic energy that effectively shorts out all electronics in the area. It's not clear if such devices are temporarily or permanently diasabled, which may depend on the item. Most military and some critical emergency systems are shielded to some extent.

It shuts down all electronic devices in range. The same thing happens with an atomic bomb but no one can tell because after the explosion everything is in ruins.
