I volunteer at a low funded municipal pound that takes in strays and surrendors. They keep the dogs there as long as they can (much much longer then required by law) but don't always find homes. I put them up on petfinder.org, and as far as I know there are no rescue groups that take mutts. Any other ideas to advertise these loving strays for a good home?

This also goes for a pleathra of cats as well. How do I help them find homes?

Craig's List is a good place to find home for animals.

Also check your Freecycle groups in your area ..... but be sure to read their rules.....some allow animals and others don't.

Call some local vets....perhaps they know of rescue groups in the area.

Do you have a local store who will allow you to hold a regularly scheduled pet fair? Once a month.? .....keep them consistent. Such as 2nd Saturday of every month.

Or even advertise open houses for your facility ...

Do you have a local cable station that advertises city events?

A weekly column in a local paper -- picture of a couple of the dogs that need a home with a short write up about them.

Hope this gets you going....

Have you tried the classifiedes for your local paper?? They may be able to help. Also check with other local animal shelters and see if they have any suggestions Hope that this helps. Also see if you can get your organization to advertise on the radio and have a pet day in wich you can bring pets to a certian area and people can come and adopt pets. Also ck with arf which is a non profit organization which take in strays. (Animal Rescue Foundation.)

Call Newsday & other local papers & put an ad in for pets. There miight be a small fee but if u can find them good homes I'll bet it would be worth the money. My brother found a few dogs like this is the wanted section of a local newpaper. He had never heard of the place before he saw the ad. He now helps them find homes for some of their animals as well. He told me that if it wasn't for the ad he would never have gotten 2 of his dogs or met my sister in law!! As he says he got a dog & a girl. Hope this helps!!

it's so kind of you to care. have you tried setting up adoption sites in the public. i use to foster for a cat rescue & we'd did adoptions every saturday at petsmart & petco. some times we'd find homes for 4-5 and some times none, but it's worth a shot. :)
