I would suspect Spyware. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
This double whammy will help keep you safe and running faster.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Things you should do:
1. Defragment your hard drive(s) - Open 'my computer' and right click on your hard drive. Go to 'properties' and then select the tools tab. Click "Defragment now" and then in the box that pops up, click "defragment". This process will take anywhere between 20 minutes and 5 hours, depending on how big and how full your hard drive is. Don't do anything while it's running, either, that will just slow things down. I like to turn this on just before I go to bed and let it run overnight.
2. Clean your registry. A handy little free program is 'Ccleaner' - this will scan your computer for remnants of old programs, shortcuts that don't go anywhere, and that sort of thing. Download it from the link below. The program is pretty intuitive, I'm sure you can figure it out.
3. Scan for adware, spyware, and viruses. You need separate programs for each of these. My favorites are Spybot S&D for spyware, Adaware for adware, and AVG for viruses. The websites to get those are all below and they are all free. Again, scan time can be long if you have a lot of files.
After all of that, your computer should be running a lot better. If you have any problems, drop me an email at chejrw (at) gmail (dot) com.

Keeping running Spybot, its a good program. Also run your Anti-virus program daily. Keep a firewall active. Defragment your hard drive, under Control panel>Administrative tools.
I had the same problem when I first went to yahoo DSL from AOL. I found I had to forget using Yahoo's internet explorer, instead I now use Netscape as my browser, which I can still access my Yahoo stuff, but it runs faster. There are just some internal conflicts that go on at times. Try a new browser and see what happens.
Go to www.netscape.com to download the browser
Good luck!

- Many users are not aware of how much RAM is used by a screensaver full of graphics. Are you using a complex screensaver - it runs in the background and eats memory.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
- cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
- cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
- then cl Remove.
- This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
- Are you in a large file? If so, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.)
1. Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag
2. Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.
3. From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart
3. click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup
4. click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
- Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

There are several programs in your computer to clean up and speed up. In 'all programs', go to accessories, system tools and perform a disk cleanup. Again go to accessories, system tools and perform a defragment. It is also necessary to run an anti spyware program to rid the computer of spyware which slows down the operation. and finally run an antivirus program. Those four steps should help speed up your computers operation.

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

The following steps should speed up your PC. Do all of the steps with patience:
1. Run Disk clean-up. Then delete unused files. (start>program>accessories>sys... tools> disk clean-up)
2. Check for disk errors. (right click on a disk-drive>properties>tools >error checking, then restart)
3. Run disk defragmenter, no matter what it says.
4. Delete cookies. (you can do it from your browser options: tools>internet options)
5. Delete cache or temporary files. (you can do it from your browser options) or, click on 'start", 'run', type 'temp' then click ok. Whatever shows up, just delete.
6. Delete all history files and search history. (you can do it from your browser options, or, CTRL + H, then delete)
7. Empty recycle bin.
8. Delete unused icons & short-cuts from anywhere including desktop.
9. Uninstall any software or game that you use only once or twice in a week.
10. Delete temporary internet files. (you can do it from your browser options: tools>internet options)
11. Delete all recent files. (click on start, click run, then type "recent", delete all the files which show up)
12. Run a full virus scan. If any threat found, eliminate that completely.
13. Run a software which can remove any spyware or adware.
