Well, the last three times I've been asked this question have been by women between 42-52 years old. If that's you, then it's probably the beginning of menopause.
Also, as everyone mentioned above, lotsa of folks thought that they can't have children, but are pregnant.
Those two are, BY FAR, the most likely.

However, hormone balance is a delicate thing, and there are lots of ways it can change from the benign to the, well. . .not so benign. Anything from stress to brain tumors can change hormone levels. So to answer your question 'What could be wrong?': stress changes cortisol levels and effects estrogens; tumors of the ovaries or uterus typicall cause EXTRA bleeding, not loss of periods, but there are exceptions; tumors of the adrenal glands or pituitary gland change hormone levels and can cause menstrual cycles to stop. That's a short list to start.

You should probably see your doctor, or at least talk to their nurse over the telephone. And the advice to check a home pregnancy test is pretty good, but you'll have to see you doc afterwards, regardless of the results.

On a personal note, my cousin and his wife tried to get pregnant for YEARS. They tried every in-vitro and pro-pregnancy option there was. They ended up adopting two kids. Well, out of the blue and without trying at all they are now pregnant. She 'couldn't be pregnant' either. She thought it was a bad late effect of the hormones she had taken YEARS earlier to try and get pregnant. Nope! She's 6 months along and everything is fine.

It really depends on what you mean by "can't have children".
If you still have periods, then you still have an intact uterus and ovaries, so even if you have had your tubes tied, there is a slight chance you may be pregnant. See your ob/gyn.

It's vastly more likely that it's something else, but extra-uterine pregnancies can be fatal, so you should have it checked out.

You could be having what is called sympathy pregnancy, it is your body's desire to have a child that produces these symptoms, but just in case I would go and get a home pregnancy test.

See ya

I've known several people who had their tubes tied, but still became pregnant. I'd get a preg. test and find out.
