an Australian planetary engineer named Dr. Damien D'aspromonte who recently showed the UN how Mars, Venus and Titan could be terraformed to an at least breathable atmosphere wrote in his 2002 book - Other earths out there - "using some of the powerful computers known to man the current estimate of other earth like planets/systems in our galaxy alone is 1,233,566 with the closest one being only 11 light years away"

Also Dr Ali Kaplan of the University of Istanbul school of physics predicts the number of earth like systems in our galaxy to be 1,216,445...see his book - A Second Home - its a really good read

And Dr. Joseph McMillan from the Glasgow school of Astrophysics puts the number of earth like planets in our galaxy at "approximatley 1.2 million" read his paper on "Other Solar Systems"...in the British Space Society journal (I cant remember the issue but I can find out for you)

so there you have it, 3 great mind there about throw a ball park figure of around 1.2 million and thats just in our galaxy alone....

...I bet the universe is just teeming with life and we are too busy paying bills and working 60 hours a week to take any notice

There are five just like ours and three that are similar, but the dogs are in charge. Of those two, one is run by little dogs and the other is run by big dogs. The children's book by Eastman, "Go Dogs, Go," hints at these other worldly existences.

There are six suns that would make ours look like the dot at the end of your sentence, compared to them in size, and of those, one is a double that resembles a colon, but in a slightly larger font.

Yours is a good question and shows a functioning mind that probably makes you a good conversationalist. I just thought I'd mention it.

A guy named Frank Drake came up with some theories on that. Check them out... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_equation

You should read Rare Earth. It is an excellent examination of your question, written by a geologist and an astrobiologist.

Researchers here have finally concluded that there are only 1,547,262 galaxies out there. They are now working on your second question.

Hi. If indeed the universe is infinite then the answer is an infinite number. No one can grasp infinity.
