Hey guys. I have a few questions. I’ve been doing some research(this site rocks by the way) and I decided to give 5-HTP, valerian and chamomile tea a shot. I do suffer from anxiety(I feel like im having a heart attack out of nowhere) and slight depression( I feel emotional once in a while for no reason). My question is, can these be mixed together and are there any side effects. Im currently taking St. Johns wort and I must say it does work, but only temporarily. I was prescribed lexapro(worst drug on earth stay away) and had the most terrible results after only two pills, I was also given Xanax and it was a God send, but because of its addictive nature my doc wouldn’t refill my prescription. So I decided to try the "natural" route. Please Help!!!!!

Well, those are generally safe when taken together, but the Valerian is more commonly used for sleep, especially in higher doses. I'm willing to bet that if you took 3 of them at once during the day, you'd have a very hard time keeping your eyes open, much less being able to focus in class. I'd go with the St. John's Wort in the morning (or shortly before whatever time of day is your toughest), take 5-HTP whenever you need to relax (like at the end of work/school), and take the Valerian at night before bed. After all, St. John's Wort helps with mood, 5-HTP is for relaxation (not as much for mood, but it can help a little), and Valerian is for sleep and relaxation. Good luck and I hope I helped!

don't take 5-htp with ANY medication, especially anti-anxiety drugs.
