When I was 13 and a starting left fielder, i forgot to wear my cup and left it home. Actually, I left the stupid thing back on purpose. Anyway, I was also the backup catcher. Yeah, you guessed it, the catcher got spiked in the top of the first and I moved to take his place. A curve bounced off the plate and hit me square between, er, left and right.
It took me longer to live down the snickers from the 13 year old girls in the stands than it did the pain. Give him a jock with a cup.

Yes defenitely. It won't hurt as bad as if he was 30 or so, but it would still be very painful. My balls started to become sensitive when I was about 11. Plus some of those balls go hard, I've had welts and bruises to prove it. If he gets hit by a bad hop, playing second, very painful. Get him the strap. Also have him wear it for a couple days (after you wash it of course) for him to get used to. It's really uncomfortable at fist, but now mine is just like boxers.

If you think at the age of 13 they are hitting the balls (baseballs) with that much heat then YES. They aren't expensive, so if you buy one and he hates it/no one else wears one you're only out a 10 or so. ...
My Daughter is 13, she had to step in as a pinch hitter during her dad and my co-ed softball game last summer...a grown man injured himself trying to catch her line drive... if our 98 pound 13 yr old grl can do that I bet there will be the same heat on that boys team...

This is your 3rd jockstrap question. Why are they so interesting? Anyone, male or female, playing sports in which contact/impact can occur should wear appropriate protective gear, especially over areas that are particularly sensitive.
There, that should cover any more questions of should "x" age boy who plays "y" position in "z" sport wear a jockstrap...

Yes, he will need a jockstrap. I still use one in my softball league and im 25......He will need the cup, because if he gets his goods damaged, he will never get past "second base" if ya know what i mean (wink wink nudge nudge)

Maybe just a pair of compression shorts or sliding shorts that have a sleeve so he can wear a cup. He's definitely going to want to wear a cup.

I am a big fan of compression shorts. You can still use a cup if you want, but also keeps the quads and hamstrings warmer, reducing the chance of pulls.
