The Sims 2 will only work on a laptop if it meets the minimum requirements. The requirements for The Sims 2 can be found here: http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?help_id=21

However, since The Sims 2 and the expansion packs do require more power to run (newer expansion packs generally require more from your computer), your best bet would be to save your money until February 2007 and get the Laptop-friendly, stand-alone (does not require The Sims 2 and does not work with the The Sims 2 expansion packs) version, The Sims:Life Stories

This version "doesn't require a video card and the controls have been designed specifically for the laptop with an auto-pause function where you can start and stop the action when you open and close the lid. Although the game runs on both desktops and laptops, one of our main priorities was to design a game that could be played in a separate window while you IM and chat with friends."

no, unless it has a 64mb nVidia video card or ATi video card it wont play it. its a huge game and it will be choppy. You need at least:

2.0GHz 256Mb Ram and 32mb and up video card
