I think you may have done a total destructive restore back to factory settings. I am explaining the three types of recovery here.
1....System restore takes you back to a date when your computer was working good. It only deletes what was created in that period of time. (except your personal files.) It is completely restorable and should be the first thing you try.
2....A Non destructive recovery completely restores your computer Operating System to its original format but leaves all your personal documents. You might still need to reinstall some programs but usually leaves these too.
3....A total Destructive will restore your computer back to factory settings and you loose everthing and personal files cannot be recovered.
I have done all these things many times. Good Luck, Elaine

Do you mean system restore? If so, perhaps Windows has moved your home folder "out of the way". Open "c:\documents and settings" - you'll find a folder corresponding to your user name. If there's also another folder looking like your user name but with some sort of "out of the way" extension, then perhaps your precious files are within there. Feel free to email me if you need more details on this.

If instead you meant that you reinstalled your OS, then your documents could well be gone. Sorry.
