No i am not tired of my dog its just that my parents wont help me out any and they told me the only way id beable to get a horse is to sell my dog. they said you probably wont do anythin with him once yo get a horse anyway. and i kinda feel like im betraying my dog though. i already have it set up to where i could keep the horse at my friends house free, and split the food cost with her, and i old enough to babysit so icould make money doing that to pay for a farrier and evrything. so it wouldnt cost that much. and im 14, ive wanted a horse since i was 3. but my parents got me a dog instead. which didnt bother me any. but its been my life long dream. what should i do????????????????????????????

You are not going to be able to afford a horse on babysitting money. Hay is extremely expensive this year, not to mention you have to pay for the farrier, vet, all of the start-up costs, grain, and all that jazz. And if you don't have horse experience then you don't *need* a horse unless you can afford a trainer. Dogs are a lot easier than horses, horses are very easy to screw up if you don't know what you're doing and you can turn a calm, easy-going horse into something mean or dangerous. Stay with your dog, you will regret it if you don't.

Sorry, but you act as if your dog has no concept of feeling.Pets are not disposable. How long have you had the dog. Is it your dog or the family dog? If it's your dog then I would think that at age 14 you should be responsible for taking care of your pet. If you want a horse that much try getting a job and buying it yourself. I have owend horses all my life and believe me they are very expensive. What happens when your friend grows up goes to college ect...then what will you do for boarding the horse? They live if cared for a very long time.Bottom line is you don't sound as if you really understand the life long commitment you make when you have an animal. It's disturbing that even you say your parents suggested you sell your dog. Sounds like all of you are betraying the poor dog!

Well i think that you should keep your dog its wrong to get rid of a animal just because you want another animal. What happens when you get tired of your horse? You goin to sell it too. Why not baby set and save your money to get a horse. If you get a horse in the winter you can find a good one for $ 500. or less. People don't want to take care of horses in the winter so alot of people sell them. You probably still have alot to do with your dog cause he will be at your house not like your going to be with your horses day and night.

If you are only 14 you do not have the money to properly care for a horse. I don't care if you think you have it worked out, you need to be realistic. You need to plan for emergencies and as a 14 year old without an income, you will not be able to do anything for that horse if it colics, cuts itself badly, needs corrective shoeing, need chiropractic work, etc. You will have given up one animal that you can easily care for and your parents are okay with for one that you can barely afford and will have to give up, euthanize or leave without treatment if something major happens because you are 14 and cannot earn enough babysitting to pay for a $2000 to $4000 colic surgery. Use your babysitting money to take lessons and wait until you have a more stable source of income before you buy a horse.

Yes it is wrong to sell your dog for a horse.

First off if you care so little for your dog to rid him for a horse the same will happen for the horse, that or youll get bored of the horse just like you did the dog.

Second if you need to babysit to pay for hoof care and have to split food costs with your friend you have nowhere near the money to care for it, if an emergency arises youll be sol with no parental support.

Third your a vile heartless person for considering Abandoning your faithful dog.

Apparently your attachment to your dog isnt strong enough because someone that really loved their dog wouldnt even consider it.

Heres an example. I have a dog and when I got out of the army and we moved to a new place, I would have loved to move into a nice apartment. But since none would accept tht dog and alot of houses wouldnt accept her, well it never came into my mind that I would get rid of my dog. I just kept looking for a place that would accept dogs, until I did what had to be done and went over budget but because to me my dog is worth it I made my decision.

Sounds like you might not be that close and thats okay.
As long as you find a place for your dog thats going to make it happy and loved, then youll both be happy.
Dogs dont have memories like people, so if you find a great place for it to live, your dog will adjust.

I guess this is your parents fault for not getting you a great Dane.. But really if you even can think about getting rid of your dog, How are you gonna feel about a horse, they don't fetch or lay at your feet, and a dog for horse trade sounds like your getting an old mare ready for the glue factory, No one should ever have to get rid of their dog/cat or pet..If you're a true animal lover you'll keep the dog, and save for a horse..We get animals to accept them as part of our families, they're not like baseball trading cards..

I know it's great to have a horse, I've had three. BUT it is very important that you get a GOOD horse you can enjoy. Be wary of ‘great' deals. If this is a dream then wait till it can be a good one. I don't mean to sound like everyone's out to get you, but there are some people out there who want to sell you a lousy horse. If there's a riding club near you join it. That way you can ride, sometimes exchanging ride time for stall time (shoveling manure). You get to be around the horses, learn, and help the barn out. If you are riding a horse you really like maybe they'll sell it to you. That's happened to tons of my friends, and you get to try out the horse to make sure it doesn't spook. Good luck, I hope it all works out. :) And it's fine to swap your dog for a horse.

Yes! Wrong!
You should have neither the dog OR the horse until you grow up, take responsibility, love, and care for the animal you have.
After all we're not talking about an out-grown sweater here but a living being.
I think your parents should sell YOU and get a better child.

That is wrong because the dog is your friend and if you sell it its like never seeing your best friend again!
Just save money to but a horse it might take a while
you could sell your old stuff to get money for the horse
hope you get both
