Termites start at the top of the house and eat their way down. They must have access to the ground for water and nesting.
So you need to find out where they are coming into the house. Usually they come in along pipes that are built into the slab or at the edge of the slab. You can see the mud tunnels that they build as pathways into your house.
There are two chemicals that are commonly used one is call Chlordane, which is difficult to find, because it is regulated in many states. If you can find it, it will cost about $50 per gallon. But, it is not biodegradable so where you apply it, it will stay.
The other product sells under the name Dursban. This is a broad band insecticide and does not have the hazardous reputation of Chloredane. However it will biodegrade in sunlight and so you need to apply it an inch or two below the soil.
If you see the termite tunnels on the side of the slab, then dig a shallow trench along the lenth of the house walls. 2-4 inches should do. Then apply a 1 percent solution of either chemical into the trench and cover it up. Chlordane is sold at around 40-50 percent solution. Dursban can be anywhere from 15 percent to 50 percent. Both can be diluted in water.
One other thing to note about Dursban, is that it is commonly used by pest control companies to treat for roaches and other insects. It should not be used on or around food preparation surfaces or where it may come into contact with food. Use common sense.
I use it along baseboards, and under the sink and anywhere where bugs can enter the house. In Texas we have some big roaches, but the only ones you will find in my home are belly up.
READ the directions. Both chemicals are safe when used properly and you don't have to pay a professional

Termites are not an easy problem to get rid of by yourself... you really need a PRO to handle this problem. You MAY think you got them all but the bulk of them you probably don't even see or know they are there... them subterranean termites are not visible to you unless you crawl under the house or if you are on a slab.... then you need to know what to look for.... GO get yourself a Free... (IN MOST CASES)...... A termite inspection...... they will tell you what you need to do.... it's not cheap... but it may save you some BIG BUCKS later down the road.......
