Racism and political correctness are both wrong, counterprogressive and obnoxious. Uptight and ignorant idiots these days, both black and white, cry "racism" so much that they have forgotten what racism means. The irony of it all is that the uptight PC people who cry racism are often the racist ones themselves and not the ones being accused. Racism is hatred of or the belief that a race is inferior to another. Impolitical correctness and racism are NOT the same thing. Many impolitically correct things are banned or accused of being racist when they really aren't.

However, what is also irritating is that there are people that fit the true definition of racism that will call themselves impolitically correct. If they make a statement about innate racial inferiority, they'll defend it by saying "oh I'm just being honest and impolitically correct". Give me a break.

Political Correctness makes people liars. It makes social interactions awkward between people. I'd rather some hillbilly call me a "colored gal" then to break their neck and call me an African American girl. Especially when I know they would call me a ni99er behind my back in a minute.

As far as people in wheelchairs, I don't know of anyone who would call them cripple. Maybe handicapped. Me, "Dude in the wheelchair".

My fat friend, she's "chubby". I don't really think people respect you when you try to go out of your way to be PC. As long as people are people, we'll have both racism and PCness. Most people who are PC are racists on some level anyway. If they feel like they need to be PC it's because they themselves are uncomfortable with dealing with people of the group they're addressing, and don't want to offend them. This makes things more uncomfortable then they already are. Overly sensitive people who get offended when people aren't PC have issues. Save it!

What the heck does "impolitically" mean? Are you trying to make "politically" a longer, more impressive word? You do know that the people who say, "irregardless" are incorrect, I hope. The term is "regardless." The word I think you mean is "politically."

I'm certain that you do not like my answer so far, it smacks of proper usage of words. That is all "political correctness" is really all about. It is being conscious that people from different countries, cultures and races are addressed in a respectful manner; in a manner they prefer.

Let's put it like this: say your name is Zanthogoraphene and your parents gave you this name for many reasons, and you've grown up hearing the stories behind your name. This name makes you feel proud whenever you hear it. But whenever you meet new people they take the liberty to shorten your name in whatever way that is most convenient to them, and by not using your full name, you feel disrespected.

Now I think this world should be educated enough to be respectful to people for whatever they wish to be referred as. I'm part Polish and let me tell you, "Polack" is a slur against Poles. Yes, Polish people are "Poles." Italian is not pronounced, "eye-tal-ian" but "it-al-ian" (same as saying "it" just like the name of the country, Italy.) but people are so lazy and disrespectful we don't hear the correct words.

Political correctness is not about how you raise your kids or the woman who spilled MacDonald's coffee in her er...lap. Political correctness is about being respectful to people by calling them by the appropriate term.

How can we be free of racism if you think that it's OK to be disrespectful of a person's race or heritage?

There are some gross generalizations in your expansion on your question. I'm putting those in the personal issues column. Not everyone who is PC is "uptight" or "hung up" and crying "racism" or at least not for incorrect reasons.

I'd love to live to see this planet be a place where we could all get along. Unfortunately, I think it's an unrealistic dream, due mainly to the fact that pain causes people to grow and we all need opportunities to experience pain and growth, because, let's face it, life would be mighty dull without problems to overcome and solve. When Global Warming becomes a situation of humankind against nature, then we will all come together. Of course it might be the end of humankind, but I have faith that we will band together at that time.

Happy Holidays
Peace.

I hate to break in on your fantasy, but the REALITY is that there ARE differences in the different races.
Read " The Bell Curve " to find out the REALITY.
Even the APA had to agree that the book speaks the truth.
Wishing things away will not make any changes in the REALITY of the situation.
The evidence is all around you if you take off the rose colored glasses and OBSERVE the world around you.
Where are people dying? Where is Darfur? You connect the dots.
Who is starting to show their muscle as a world power? Why?
Maybe " The Bell Curve " might be right.

Maybe we need to face REALITY.

On Politically Correct:

South Park did a an episode called " Smug Alert " that dealt with the PC types......

I would like to add to your definition of racism.

Racism is not just hatred of or the belief that a race is inferior to another but racism comes in when policies are put in place in order to maintain this way of thinking. For example, I could call you "Blacky, blacky, blacky" or "Whitey, whitey, whitey,) all day long but it is not "functional racism" until my opinion of you creates Laws (written or unwritten) that affect your ability to function in society. The only functional system of racism is the system of White Supremacy.

To answer your question, I believe that this society was built of racism. Unless we expose and defeat the true racists in this society (and their defenders) we will never be free of it. As long as we blame the victims of racism as being racists, we will never get anywhere

Nope. Sorry. I've taken many sociology class in college, and well, between personal experiences and parents beliefs some people seem to have no choice. Want to see your extent of racism? Check out https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/selectatest.jsp

Racism suits those who believe in it. Race is a myth. Social construct. Division of labor. Division of social class.

Political correctness is just pedantics. A smoke screen. They are just words.

I would tend to think the last 35 years took a toll on our vocabulary, attempting to exit some NAME for everything under the sun.

And, paranoidschizophrenia needs no excuse's at all, its paranoid with a schizoid lean toward the negative about everything but its self.
BUT, for ones self, personally, I would call it just plain old everyday.....FEAR.

We're all politically correct in certain situations. If you had a friend that was overweight, would you call her a fat girl? No, you'd say she was overweight. Maybe you'd even say she was large. But you wouldn't say, "You know my friend Mary, the fat girl."

If you knew a person in a wheelchair, would you call him a
cripple?

If you had a friend who was gay, would you call him a f....t? No, you'd call him gay.

This is all just common courtesy, trying to avoid saying something that will cause another person pain or discomfort.

No. There will always be oversensitive controlfreaks that will make you say, "Mail Delivery Person," instead of mailman or something stupid.

Then there will be prejudiced a$$holes who see a chance to be "maverick nonconformists" and will spout their opinions wildly and rudely to get the oversensitive people more pissed off than they should be.
