I delivered having an epidural. I was 7 cm dialated by the time I got to the hospital, I was in labor at home going through excruciating pain down in my abdomen and vaginal region that all started at 4 a.m. the day I gave birth to my first child. The thing was I didn't realize I was in labor, I get I was just oblivious pf how painful it could be. When my husband finally called the birthing unit at the hospital I was to deliver at the nurse told him to bring me immediately in. Got the hospital at 12:30 p.m., got at situated at the hospital, still in excruciating pain, basically screaming and crying while the nurse was trying to admit me. My OB/GYN came in exmained me and told me I pretty much did my most of my labor at home, because by the time I got to hospital I was 7 cm. When she asked me if I wanted an epidural, there was no hesitation! I didn't want to feel that pain again! Three hours later my daughter was born!
Had my second child two years later, again, no hesitation to having an epidural.
It's all up to you, if you fell you have a HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE, then maybe you're able to go without one. As for me, if I ever have a third, I think I'd still request it.
GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS!!!

I did. My labor was induced, and got painful really quick.
I waited until I had been in labor for 6 hours to finally decide on the epidural. Then, as soon as I got the epidural, the nurse said - uh it's time to push. So, it turns out that the epidural only saved me from the pain of the last 20 minutes of labor.
Bad part, when I was given the epidural, they stuck the needle in to deep, so I was completely numb waist down for 4 hours. Then, because they punctured through the spinal sack, I had a horrible spinal headache for 3 days, and ended up going back to the hospital to get a blood patch to fix the problem.
My case was rare, that there is a problem with the epidural. But, it can happen. My advice, if you experience headaches after getting an epidural, tell the nurse ASAP. The pain from the messed up epidural was way way worse than the 6 hours of labor before the epidural.

I went into it all saying I wouldn't get the epidural, but a half an hour after my water broke, when they told me at the hospital I could get one, I went for it- contractions hurt so bad, and laying on that bed, I wanted to scream. So I gave in, got one- and it was wonderful... I was laughing with my Dad! But it all went downhill 15 hrs into it- it wore off entirely... so I went the last 4 hrs without it at all- and I was almost fully dilated when they said I needed a c-section- my baby just wasn't descending down. My spinal epidural didn't even work, so I had to be put under for the c-section... it was horrible pains when the epidural stopped working. The whole thing was so bad, I said in the hospital never again... but now that I had him (a healthy 9lb 10oz baby boy), and am feeling much better, I'd do it again.

I had all 3 of my children with an epidural. I think it's the only way. Why would any woman want to go threw all that pain, when there is something that can & will stop it? The epidural does not harm the baby in any way!

I had a c-section with an epidural, I only felt tugging, no pain. If you opt for an epidural for relief, don't wait too long or it will not be effective. My little sister waited too long and was very uncomfortable, next time around she didn't wait too long and was better for it. If you think you can handle the pain go natural, but in the same breath if it is a long and hard labour you might tire out and that could be hard for both you and baby. Talk to the doctor and attend Lamaze classes.

I delivered with an epidural.
I had no pain in the epidural site following the birth of my child.
I had to have an episiotomy, that made me especially glad to have an epidural.
It eased my pain and made birthing a better experience.
I am 30 weeks pregnant, and will likely have one again.

I got an epidural. My delivery was 17 hours. It started wearing off after about fourteen hours. I was fine with that. I could feel everything during my labor but I'm glad I did.

I tryed one becuase I got induced and it was taking me forever to dialate. So I got one so I could sleep. Well the only thing that it numbed was my legs, which was really annoying. I think that the anasteisiologist(sp) was in a hurry and wanted to go home. I complained that it was wrong, and they said that there was nothing they could do becuase it was in the right place....yeah right.
If you are getting an epi, go for it girly! Usually they are awesome, ive heard. I dont think there are many stories like mine, so dont be scared.
Oh and just a side note....It doesnt hurt to get an epi. I remember feeling a little stinging prick and then some pressure, and that was it. They taped it down and I was good to go! The tape hurt coming off though...
Good luck!
Ps. I am planning on trying the epi again when I give birth to this baby.

I had two natural births, but I know several who had the epidural. Most liked it, but my sister in law had problems where it never took and she felt all the pain anyway.
