It depends on your geographic area. That's well within the normal range for most of the country. You do not say what type of degree you have or what area of IT you work in. Are you a programmer, a DBA, a software engineer, a networking specialist, etc? DBAs usually make less than programmers who make less than developers. However, there are many levels within each area. Do you manage anyone? These things should all be asked before you determine your worth on the open market.

As some of the others have stated, it depends on your exact location, the company/organization you work for (corporate, profit, nonprofit, government?), work schedule, responsiblities, # of people you manage, amount of gross revenue your company earns, your skills, etc.

You can expect to earn more money if you have IT skills that are in demand. If you have the same IT skills as other employees/collegues, chances are your salary will stay the same. Try to set yourself a part by specalizing in skills that are different from the rest.

My personal opinion: 60k is great for an entry level IT position; if you're supporting yourself and enjoy a regular NYC lifestyle . However, you could probably do the same position for the same amount (or more) in a much smaller city than NYC. In the other job markets (cities), you could possibly afford a home and other perks, too. I would suggest using a service like salary.com and getting an idea as to what the expected salary ranges are for different city markets (unless your content on staying in NYC).

What do most professional IT guys with 4 yrs experience make? If they make more than 60, then yes, you are low...

You should be able to find out from a headhunter what the average in your industry is.

Well, it varies by location and of course the size of your company will effect salary but it seems you're in the ball park. Average IT staffer throughout the US earns about $73,000 but again, it depends on where you are and since that's an average, some earn more and others less.

A lot depends on where you live and the compensation of peers.

A very good source would be the US Census website. They keep all sorts of valuable statistical info.

LOL, WHAT I COULD DO WITH 60K. INVEST IT WISELY AND LIVE RESPONSIBLY!

Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of the wicked.

Psalm 82:3-4

GOD BLESS

well, depends on where you are, in some places it is pretty good salary , look around you and see what salaries are paid, if you are in a big city it is considered low.
