I'm an art history student I learn this stuff all day. It's connected because you get to see how humans evolved politically, socially and spiritually. You even see how people look facially as to what people look like now, this tells us that we appeared different centuries back. Like northern Africans the Egyptians influenced the Romans and Greeks, they copied the Egyptians heavily. They did statue busts on there kings or great government officials. The Greeks even copied poses from the Egyptians, one leg forward and one leg back. This stance gives the viewer the illusion like he or she is walking. I could go on, but the Greeks evolved artistically and made their own styles. Their stance is the controplasto pose, where the statue is relaxing on one leg almost leaning one way.
This is art, but also history of people and how art connects us all. By knowing this you can find things in Africa, Europe or South America that might give you a link. This link could mean they all traded at some point or they migrated at some point in history. These facts can all be possible. Like the Olmec of South America they were great traders with the Native Americans; they were from West Africa . I'm from Ghana West Africa some say the late Egyptians were our ancestors because of our dialects, names and customs are really similar. But all these claims wouldn't have been known without art or some kind of art piece. The Olmecs designed huge heads, you can see that they have big lips, thick noses and western African features. This tells us who they are and what culture or group of people they fall into.
Art links us to history, religion, customs and beliefs. The Greeks believed in so many Gods so did the Egyptians. The secret is though who started this first , so we use carbon dating or art pieces to see which art piece preceded which culture or group of people. As they have done this the Egyptians believed in this stuff first, bringing us to the conclusion that they were trading buddies and they were influenced by the Egyptians. You see this all over from Asia ,Africa to Europe. Art tells you more then just wow that's awkward or just weird. North Africa is close to Italy, Spain and Rome, but there was a big influence on the Greeks big time. So I hope I answered your question, art means more than colors and designs it's complex.

Anthropology is the study of Humans and their ancestors. Only humans have created true art (although other animals have been given paintbrushes), so the study of art can actually be looked at as a branch of Anthropology because art is uniquely a human creation. If the Arts are defined as the expression of ideas through tangible mediums, then the study of Art becomes essential in understanding humans and the humanities as it is a reflection of the peoples who created it, and it expresses the struggles and viewpoints of the individuals and cultures that created it. This makes the study of Art essential to Anthropologists

anthropology as a scientific study of human life in all its aspects entails the learning and understanding of its history, behavior and culture - and that includes art (architecture, paintings, music, drama, etc...).

The variety of Arts is one of the features that distinguishes human race from other animal species. The basis of art is our body shape and our physiology, so art is anthropocentric; it is assigned to wake our feelings and memories. The magic of art is one of means of adaptation to living in social media, to express your opinion, to understand your friends and opponents, to attract attention of gods or opposite sex.
