Yao has been better than Shaq for the last 2 years.

Yao is better at shooting than Shaq, but needs a little more work on rebounding. He still stands for his rebounds. He should go after them, but he probably just wants to save his energy for offense. Shaq is more of a power player. Overall, though, Yao is better because he can score just as well as Shaq, block, and is not terrible at free throws.

Of course Ming is better than Shaq in 06-07 season, Shaq spend most of the time on the injury list, while Ming is dominate the entire league.
