The idea that everyone should be married or in a serious relationship is stupid. I have been married for almost 25 yrs so I think marriage is a wonderful thing... but, it would be better for a person to really be comfortable with who they are and able to make decisions for themselves and to be self reliant would make them a better catch if they did decide to get married at some point.

Loner, i have always thought of that as a good term, or perhaps independent. like that person is independent and confident enough with themself that they don't need to be with others, yet they can still enjoy the company of others when they are around other people

Loner is usually taken as a pejorative term, but it really isn't.
Some terms with more positive connotations, but that aren't exactly synonyms, would be individualist, or independent person. Lone wolf. Separatist. Maverick. Stag.

I would say being at peace with oneself. If you can be alone without being lonely then you have a healthy outlook of life. I can spend a lot of time alone happily.
