First of all, cd-rom connector cables used on the other computer probably would be no different on a number computer. Using a ribbon made for floppy drive wouldn't work on a cd-rom drive as they are not physically the same size. Also, most newer computers should be able to detect older drives without the need for a driver (that is unless you are using Windows XP/2000/NT).

Yep, you are a thirteen year old that knows exactly what you are doing.....

Well, if you just stuck on a cable from a FLOPPY drive, you might have just fried the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM takes a DIFFERENT cable even though the floppy cable seems to fit. If the CD-ROM has an IDE interface, it uses a 40 pin cable. A floppy cable has only 34 pins and has a twist to the " A " drive connector..
If the CD-ROM is a SCSI type, it will have 50 connector pins.
And some early CD-ROMS only had 20 pins...

We technicians LOVE 13 year olds that know everything, that is how we make easy money.....

First check the BIOS and see if it's there and enabled If it's connected correctly it should show up there. Then check the Device Manager. Then . I would think if you looked hard enough you should be able to find the "firmware driver" somewhere. Somehow I thought that the cable for a floppy is different than an IDE cable, but I'm not sure.

It wouldn't work with a floppy cable it should have cable like hard drive and hooked next to hard drive on the mother board.
