the team that has the richest history no doubt is the Cowboys but the Steelers and 49'ers also have a rich history
I take the Steelers because they got one for the thumb last year and the Cowboys also have 5 Super Bowls but Steelers are the better team the past few years despite this years car wreck but then again the Steelers were good back when the Cowboys were the best and Steelers even beat the COWBOYS in Super Bowl 13

That question is impossible to answer since football has under gone so many changes that affect the game who really can say. Today's' football is not the same as it was 20 years ago. The men are bigger, the rules are different. To compare today's teams to the teams of the 70's is impossible. I played college ball in the 60's and I weighted 235 pounds and played right guard. Today I couldn't even make the team with that weight. Football, along with other sports, should have a team of the decade and that's all.

Stats don't lie. Like them or hate them the Dallas Cowboys are the most successful football team in the NFL.
The team has been to 8 Super Bowls. Won 5 and could have won 7.
They lost Super Bowl V to Baltimore on a dropped int that would have sealed the game. Baltimore then kicks game winning field goal. 16-13
They lost Super Bowl X to the unbeatable Steelers 21-17
They lost Super Bowl XIII to the Steelers on a 4th down dropped game winning td pass to Jackie Smith in the end zone 35-31.
Two plays and history is much different.
They are now poised to possibly make a run at #6.

The Pittsburgh Steelers in particular the Steel Curtain era. 4 Superbowl titles in a short period of time, a true dynasty. The best defense the NFL has ever seen. The Cowboys the best team ever? They certainly couldn't bring down the Curtain in Superbowl 10.
