It is a good idea to speak to someone about this incident. I work with Victim Services and my advice to a client who told me this would be to refer them to a therapist at mental health. At the very least call a toll free hot line, like Good Samaritins. It is normal to have reaction to incidences like this, but usually the reactions will lessen and/or disappear after a few weeks. If the reactions don't disappear, you should speak to someone.

Having never 'seen' a dead person before, consciously understanding that someone (who had previously been alive) had died in front of you can present a psychological dilemna (sic). This is true because people tell you that death is IT, the big IT, so although you know that death exists, up until that point it seemed abstract and far-away.

Having a close encounter with death often makes people grow more conscious of their own mortality. What I am guessing is that some part of you is associating the flipping of the car with the guy's blank face, almost like a cause-effect, but because you don't actually know for sure what killed him (maybe he died, before the car started flipping, by hitting his head on the steering wheel) you are stuck trying to make a logical connection, hoping that the logic will somehow lessen the irrationality, the suddeness of it. A grief counselor/therapist can help ease the pressure your mind is feeling under the weight of this memory, either through talking or even meds.

It's ok to recognize that you are stuck and you need help to get past something. That's what they are there for, to help people cope and move on with their lives.

I've seen two really gorey accidents in my past. One involved a car that was hit by a train that I saw during one lunch hour in high school- the person was totally mangled up against their steering wheel. The other one involved a hit and run near a Pentecostal Church- the person's blood was all over the cross walk. It didn't affect me though. I guess I'm similar to one of those people like in CSI that can handle ugly things like this; however, in your situation, you may want to talk to your family and even see a therapists if it hinders you severely enough that you cannot function normally after what you have witnessed.

Yes definitely. The images you saw are traumatic and preying on your mind. I know what that's like because my parents and I found my brother who'd died in his bed. This is the most traumatic and haunting experience I've ever had in my life. Talk to a mental health professional. It is difficult for people who've never witnessed death up close to comprehend how painful and horrifying it is. If you don't get help, it can really mess you up.
Good luck! Merry Christmas.
