Give it space, warmth, sunlight, cleanliness, and a varied diet.
Space- aim for at least 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle.
Warmth- 75-80F water temps, 90F basking sites
Sunlight- provide UV-B rays with the lighting to simulate the sun. These are easiest by using reptile bulbs that brag about UV-B lighting.
Cleanliness- try filtration about 2-3 times stronger than a regular fish tank.
Varied diet- use about 25-50% high quality pellets, the rest live or frozen/thawed 'fish food' like small fish, worms, bugs, shrimp, beef heart, etc.

Depends on what kind of turtle. Is it Aquatic or a tortiouse. I have both species land and aqautic. the best you can do for them is to make sure they have clean fresh water and fresh food daily. And the ever so popular forgotten one make sure you have a UVB bulb wether it be land or aquatic. Turtle shells can become soft and brittle with out the proper UVB light. Any other qeustions e-mail me.

Keep the tank clean, fresh food and water. If it is a water turtle use a filter and put something it can kind of hide under.

Its unknown really do reptiles feel the same emotions as human beings (love, happiness, hate, fear) or is there mental state completely different than ours?
I'm sure that the only thing that he wants is food, shelter, water and a place to live that is a suitable temperature.
