NO
Chicago does not have a by-pass like other cities. Cities like Atlanta have a highway that circles the city.
Chicago doesn't have a highway like that as it borders a Lake Michigan.
There are expressways and tollways that run west of the City north and south

If you're coming from, say, Wisconsin and want to get to, say Indiana without going through downtown Chicago, you can take I-294 (the Tri-State Tollway) which cuts off from I-94 just south of Deerfield and curves south around the city to rejoin I-94 in the south suburbs (near Markham).
There is also I-290 (the Eisenhower Expy) that cuts off of I-90 in the northwest suburbs, but it rejoins I-90 in downtown Chicago, so it's more an "alternate route into the city" than a bypass.

The previous Mayor Daley wanted the "Crosstown Expressway," but couldn't get approval from timid politicians and suburbs for mass property condemnations.
I-294 bypasses the entire city but is relatively far from the Loop. It would be the choice if you are traveling from Wisconsin to Indiana and don't want to stop. It also connects with I-80, I-57, I-55, I-88, I-90, I-94 and I-290.

294 bypasses from the north suburbs at 94 to the south at 80.
355/290/53 bypasses from the northwest at 90 to the southwest near Joliet at 55.
That's about it for now. Both paths are mostly toll roads, so have some coins or your EZ Pass handy.

Unfortunately there isn't. Your only option is I90/94 which links traffic coming from the north, south and west. My suggestion would be to avoid rush hour travel. Good Luck!

It may help if you said exactly where you are driving to and from because there are many shortcuts in the city.

Not really. 294 kind of does, but since that goes past O'Hare, it doesn't make that much of an alternative.
