My wireless SUCKS. It's pissing me off SO MUCH.

Anyway, first it would drop the connection every 5 minutes, so I'd have to unplug and plug everthing until it worked again. Now it's working, but every couple of minutes it will stop, and I'll check my wireless connection status and it says the radio is powered off. Umm, what? I hadn't even touched it. And it's definitely not because of the external switch. That thing takes serious effort to switch off, so it's not like I'm accidentally turning it off that way.

HELP!

before you go out buying new equipment try upgrading the router with the latest firmware from the manufactures website...

There are many possibilities:

1) If this is a laptop, it could be your battery power. Make sure your laptop is plugged in.

2) Also, many built-in wireless is setup to shut off to conserve power and you want to disable power management on you card.

3) If this is wireless in your house, then I would disable all WEP and WPA security that you have. By adding security, your bandwidth decreases severely. I always recommend MAC filtering instead of WEP or WPA security.

4) It could also be your router or your wireless card that is incompatible. Have you tested any other routers or wireless cards? Or even someone else's computer?

5) Interference - if you have cordless phones in your house or near a radio tower, this can severely impact performance.

6) It could be driver related. Go to the manufacturer of your wireless card and download the latest drivers/software for it.

hi sweet girl y r u so worried abt radio waves??? any way what u heard is true first there r 2 kinds of wireless networks they r GSM & CDMA GSM: private cell companies use a high frequency waves to keep up there signal strength this may cause some kind of cancers coming to CDMA which has less frequency waves and is safer than GSM so if u r worried abt radio waves the try CDMA insted of GSM and remember 1. if u r in a city then u have a lot of this kind of risk 2. keep the cell phones away frm u when they r not in use and use ear phones when taking 3. dont talk too long on cell phones coz when they heat up the emit radiation sweaty u r way too afraid abt this 1) if u don't even have a cell phone at home ur home still b filled with the waves 2) if u r so afraid abt radio waves why cant u try broadband internet???

Sorry to say this but you might have to get a new wireless system. I had almost that same exact problem. Always having to unplug everything. It was Netgear. There are other networks around us that we think bumped ours off, we don't know. We switched to Linksys and it works fine. Sometimes it screws up email----I have a Mac. Sorry to say that to you but that's all I can think of.
