I have been in the Army for a year...... if u wanna join go ahead, but don't go around telling everyone that u r gay.... some people r fine with it, but others are not....... just because u join does not necessarily mean u will go to Iraq or overseas...it depends on what ur job is and if they need u in Iraq... I have been in for a year, but I have not been anywhere but here....Maryland.

You can join, but you would have to leave your girlfriend behind. The "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy means they can't ask, and you cannot under any circumstances reveal that you're gay.
Granted, this policy has actually in all reality resulted in even more discharges than ever before in the history of the US military.
Personally, as ex-military and a female who's gay. DON'T JOIN THE ARMY. It's the lowest on the Military totem pole.
We have to face it, the military just isn't ready for women. I'd rethink your decission if I were you.

First of all, where do you live/what army are you joining? If you live in the United States, i'm pretty sure it is against the law to kick someone out for being a lesbian. There was a law passed during the Clinton administration known as the don't ask don't tell policy.

Well I am in the army, and I love it, there is this policy the military has called "Don't ask, don't tell!" So as long as they dont catch you in the act its ok. . .I dont understand why they think lesbians/gays cant defend our country like any other person... But what can we do?????
You can join. I know lots of gays in the military!!!!! Just dont engage in lesbian activities around those that it would matter.
And I DONT KILL PEOPLE FOR A LIVING!!!

In accordance with the military's "Don't Ask - Don't Tell" as long as you keep your sexual preference to yourself, it remains your business. However, if you engage in or voluntarily admit to engaging in lesbian activities than you can be discharged from the service.
Truth be told one of my best friends years ago while I was overseas in Korea confided in me that she was a lesbian. But in official circles she kept her sexuality to herself and nothing was said officially.
As far as missing your girlfriend, hetrosexual couples when seperated have the same feelings for the most part.
The choice as to joining the military is yours, but be careful in what you wish for.

They can't kick you out. The girls in the Army are either sluts or Lesbians. Guys respect Lesbians, because they are kind of like one of the guys. You don't know what kinds of things are said about the straight women...
Before "don't ask don't tell", they could ask you about your sexuality, and then not let you in. Now they can't ask therefore they can't know, and can't kick you out, etc...

You can join. Have you ever heard of the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy? They can't ask you about your sexual preference and you shouldn't say anything. I realize that it isn't quite fair, but that is just how it is.

I wouldn't go regardless because of the war in Iraq. I wouldn't want to get drafted cuz of being in the war recently, or being called to it
