I think it's great for the kids, but not for adults..

You're not cheap... Christmas comes but once a year but the bills come every single month!
Too many people spend more than they have. It's become a way of life, for many, to live to impress those around them regardless of how much debt they must incur (and maintain) to do so.

Try thinking of something you could give that wouldn't cost money (detail their car, shampoo your mother's carpets, volunteer at a charity in their name, promise to mow their lawn all summer for free & don't forget to follow thru... you get the idea.)

This is the season of "giving" but too many people attach a dollar sign to that word. Try to give something from the heart instead of the wallet... you may just be surprised at how well a gift like that is received.

Let those that you love know how you feel, that's the real giving. No-one will remember the gift you hated to give and bought at the last minute under pressure -- they'll always remember how you made them feel.

Have a Merry Christmas.

you don't have to spend that much on Xmas presents, the best presents are from the heart. it doesn't take much to take a photo, print it out and put it in a dollar store frame. or someone's favorite book or music. you can put together gift baskets using some candies, nuts and dried fruits. these are easy to do and not expensive. if you want free then you can make little coupons for free massages, chores, watching the kids, a dinner date, etc. you get the idea..

It is great for kids, and for me its just seeing the joy in their faces, but beneath my smile is only worry and stress of the strain this Christmas puts on our budget. For you, a simple card and maybe a little stocking with hersheys kisses will be fine. Everyone loves kisses (unless your diabetic, you can handle even one!)

you're not cheap. its just reality check. forgo gifts for adults, just get something for the whole family or a little cutie stuff for the kids... christmas, has become so commercialised that it has lost all its meaning, its just another useless holiday now.

You live within your means, nothing wrong with that.

Too many people go into debt and cause a hardship... ain't right.
Stay within your wallet and if they don't understand then to hell with them. It's the spirit not the banking industry that dictates the season.

Not at all. I would prefer it that way myself. I think it should be a time to spend with one's family.
