There is a very large percentage of the American population who absolutely love football (soccer). We were quite upset about Roy Keane no longer being with Manchester United. We are quite curious of the current mistreatment of David Beckham, with regards of his dismissal from the English National Team (considering he scored and assisted the English squad well over 50% during the World Cup). Oh yes, I think it is called politics, McClaren doesn't like Beckham and Real Madrid has him warming the benches. The Major League Soccer organization should do whatever they can to get Beckham, since they are always sending off great American players to the premier league, such as Brian McBride, Freddy Adu will be next, and their are countless other Yanks playing overseas.
We also are keeping our eyes on the Chelsea vs Manchester United rivalry. By the way, we can't wait, in three years ROY KEANE will be back to MAN. UTD. to manage the club.
People forget of the soccer dynasty that was the NASL in the seventies that featured Pele, Beckenbauer, Rodney Marsh, George Best and many other of the greatest footballers in the World. The New York Cosmos and Tampa Bay Rowdies use to outdraw many of the NFL (football) and MBA (baseball) teams of the day. Soccer Ruled in America back in the day!! One of the most successful World Cup's ever was held in the UNITED STATES in 1994.

Because Americans are biased about football(soccer) as everyone else in the world is about American football. Both sides aren't interested in the other football. Also, as always Americans think everything THEY do is better and right, when the rest of the world disagrees, hence they think American football is better, when in reality they're just being ignorant. You can't say something is better when you know nothing/or hardly about what you are claiming as less. Additionally, whoever said football is not popular in Asia. UM...I don't know where you found your sources, but Asia is football-crazed, almost as much as Europe or South America. Asian football just isn't acknowledged as much, because lets face it, the World Cup should just be Euro-Cup version 2.0, don't you agree?

Because they can't see how to rip it off like they have with all other "American sports"
Baseball = Rounders
Basketball = Netball
American football = Rugby
and so on.
Americans don't like anything if they don't feel they own it. To do this they copy other things and take credit for it. Why else would they have World Series and the like with Pretty much only US based teams.
Possible exception is Ice Hockey. Not something they ripped off from another sport. Someone else did it.

Maybe Americans have a problem with sports that end in draws...they can't grasp the concept of 1-1 draw and so on. They're suckers for closure and for everything to be resolved with clear cut winners. Americans just love winners. Then again, what do I know....

Soccer is a lot more slower paced than American sports, and there's a lot less physical contact. Other than that, I'm not sure. I also don't know why so many Americans watch baseball. I would rather watch soccer: baseball is sooooo boring.

first of all its football , and american suck so much at it. they're stupid when it comes to football. they play like a programmed robot. Football is a game of finess, technique, and style, and americans dont have that with their feet.
why its not popular? bcuz americans r too busy playin booorin sports such as baseball and american football where u play for 10 seconds and stop for 5 minutes. Football is not incorporated in american peoples lives and they dont grow up with and have passion in their soul for it. when a redneck or ******'s son grows up they're more likely to be taught to play base or american foot ( plz tell me y da hell u guys call it that). Football is a sport that requires the pinnacle of skill and energy, americans only have energy. its funny how americans think they conquer the world, yet they are the worst at a sport that runs the world!!!!

well i can not speak for all, but as an average adult male, soccer just is not violent enough, us americans prefer blud and guts sports, we have the same bludlust as the romans and the coloseums., after all we watch a race to see the wrecks, football to see broken bodies, wrestling is the same as well as ufc, etc., we overlook wimpy sports like soccer !

It is very simple. It is not violent enough. I have had many people tell me that this is the reason. They say that it does not have enough "action" but I know what they really mean. We Americans love our violence. Look at TV and movies. Listen to the rap lyrics.
