After losing a friend, an uncle and almost my life to a mixture of drugs, drinking and alcohol, I have developed an almost irrational hatred toward any of these substances. While I understand that smoking is addictive (my boyfriend is currently quitting), I do not understand why young people start, knowing full well that it will eventually kill them.

I also do not understand our society's obsession with drugs, but this, perhaps, could be listed under the same properties as smoking. Addictive, yes. Calming, sure. What the hell is the point? Is your life REALLY that bad? I can understand that some people might have it that awful, but come on.

And the only I really hate- drinking. I cannot, for the life of me, understanding why I am so against this. Drinking responsibly does not irritate me as much as people who aim to get drunk, do something really stupid, then ***** about regreting it later.

Is there anyone on this effing planet (or website) that agrees with me?

Good for you! But I gotcha beat... I would also add tattoos and weird body piercings to your list.

When people ask me how to stop smoking, I say that it's pretty damned easy. STOP BUYING THEM, numbnuts! You can't smoke what you don't have.

Oh gosh, I am SOOO against drinking! You seem like a responsible person for having these feelings towards drugs and alcohol. I also, don't understand why people drink, since their stupid mistake could kill someone. Same with drugs. And you're certainly NOT the only straight-edger. I'm with ya. =] Tell the people that drink and all that to try something else. Buy them yoga lessons or a stress ball, and give it as a gift, with a note attached talking about why you love them. Often times, people like your uncles and friend need someone who loves them and makes them feel special. Though you can't bring the dead back, you can prevent more losses to drugs and alcohol. After all, you wouldn't want to lose another loved one, right?

no you arent the only sXe(straight edged) person
they're are many but iam not one of them.
It is very hard once you first try you get addicted and hard to quit for. Well many people make mistakes and those mistakes affect their health. Not everyone can do this many, you can even start young when you first make a mistake of their life. Even though that person doesnt smoke their is also Seondhand Smoking, which causes othere to be affected too. But its part of life, people do stupid things like smoking weed to try to act all cool then end up in the hospital suffering. I do thinks its wrong I would never smoke in my Life nor want to.
Take Care and Have a Merry Christmas :]

It took a lifetime of living in pure hell . I had to learn the hard way , and there isn't room on the Internet to list all of the crap I've been through . The ending is the worst , I took an overdose of all of the Rx drugs I had in the house {over 200 pills } I had no vital signs when someone found me . I guess God had a different idea and
now I try to help others who need my experience , strength , and hope . So there are some who don't , some did , some do and some never do .

If you choose not to drink, smoke or do drugs, that's up to you. Refraining from smoking and drugs is a good thing in terms of maintaining your health, although moderate alcohol consumption (one glass of red wine a day) has been proven to have some healthful benefits. However, if you're having premarital sex, you're not as virtuous and "straight-edge" innocent as you would like to think you are, especially if you're having sex with multiple partners. I just hope you're using birth control and condoms.

Uh, I don't drink beer because it tastes good, cocaine is wonderful, and if required a good time is 16 cordicedian cough and cold pills away! Just know your limits and you should be okay! I just quit smoking a month ago, and I still feel the pain of addiction (my room mate just came back in from smoking, I want to have one too). I quit smoking because its almost guaranteed to kill me eventually. Its harder than staying away from coke!
I don't brag to people about the crap I do when I'm trashed, if it was really a good time, they'll hear about it anyways. And although my life isn't what I want it to be, I'm not doing drugs to "kill the pain"; its more like a hobby, a good time to have with friends!

Who cares if anyone else agrees with you? If that's the way you feel, then great for you, but there is nothing wrong with doing those things (excluding drugs) if you choose to. Shame on you for looking down on people who choose to have a happy life by having a glass of wine and a smoke!!

a. I am against drinking too much. (Although drinking responsibly is fine with me.)
b. I am 100% against drugs.
c. I don't really mind smoking, to be honest with you. I am used to the smell, and I'd rather be around a person that smokes like a chimney then a person that drinks, gambles, etc. What does annoy me, however, are the kids that start smoking because they want to be "cool".....

I'm not tecnically straight edge because I don't like the kindof hardcore music that goes along with the typical straight edge life but I don't smoke, do drugs or drink because I jsut don't see the point in poisoning myself like that. So you're not alone, keep it up, be healthy, be happy!

If you specifically truly mean you have an aversion to the ABUSE/MISUSE of drugs (and alcohol and nicotine ARE drugs too), then yes. I agree with you on that.

I do agree with your sentiment but I don't agree with your choice to retain this sentiment. There are reasonable means of discarding of this hatred.

By the way. your freind and uncle probably died because you were too good to care. Maybe if you'd come down off that pedistal you could help people quit instead of mocking them into the grave.
