I think in the mid-80's right after "Thriller". His nose and face have changed dramatically over the years though he claims to have had only one nose job. Uh huh. The skin disease that he claims to have occurs in patches although on Wacko Jacko it's quite uniform. Hmmm.

Michael has always had a strained relationship with his father Joe Jackson. His dad was abusive & very controlling over all his childrens lives, but put much more pressure on Micheal - this is one of the reasons he never had a normal childhood. When MJ got older it is rumored he wanted to change his appearance, so he would look a lot less like his father and that is why he started changing his appearance with plastic surgery. He was also made fun of as a child and called big nose, which made him self-conscious. Michael has publicly stated that he was diagnosed with a skin condition called Vitiligo and that is why he started bleaching his skin - but others close to MJ say he doesn't have the condition.
Michael will always be brilliant and an extraordinary showman, and I think people should just leave him alone at this point. He fled to Bahrain to have some peace. His current record label "Two Sea Records" is owned by a Bahrainian Prince and MJ is due out with a new album in 2007 and everyone's wondering what his new sound will be. I read an article recently that stated the Black Eyed Peas helped on this new album, but nothings been confirmed to that fact.

Well the reason his skin color changed is because he has the genetic skin disease Vitiligo which depletes the pigment in the skin, I think it started to really affect his skin significantly in the 80's! His plastic surgery started after the Pepsi commercial burns. I don't know why people care about it so much anyway, it's his body, his life and therefore his business!! He is and always will be THE KING OF POP!! Yes he is releasing a new album in 2007 and it will be as awesome as all the rest!!

He was never the same after his hair and face caught on fire I agree with you he was awesome in the 80s but all the stars age look how we remember at the other King of pop Elvis some of us remember him as a fat pig but his true fans have different memories.I will always remember Micheal for the great entertainer that he is because I love him, if others want to remember him in different ways thats their choice.

somewhere in the 80`s. he started bleaching his skin because he was born with a skin disease that made his skin 'fade' lighter. he just wanted to speed up the process. as for the nose jobs.. i don`t know. too bad, he was a cool guy back then

I miss the old Mike! I think he began changing shortly after his hair caught on fire while taping that Pepsi commercial ( I never looked at Gheri Curls the same after that day)

That's what happens when you get too famous, too young. Most can't handle it. I pity the poor bloke.
I think in his heart, all he ever wanted was a childhood and a more normal life.
