You don't need to feel bad at all about being circumcised. You should be outraged at whoever has been lying to you about it. Anti-circumcision lobbyists have spent years lying to the public about circumcision, making people like you feel that they've been harmed, and they've little or no evidence. They aim to stop infant circumcision, and are evidently happy to misrepresent the facts in order to do so, no matter who gets hurt in the process.
Let's take another comment as an example. Although the poster presented it as her own work, it is actually a quote from an article in Mothering magazine (not a peer-reviewed journal). It was written by Paul Fleiss - an MD who should know better (see 1).
"The foreskin has numerous protective, sensory, and sexual functions."
Let's see if this is true.
"Protection: Just as the eyelids protect the eyes, the foreskin protects the glans and keeps its surface soft, moist, and sensitive."
As you already know from scientific studies, it does no such thing.
"It also maintains optimal warmth, pH balance, and cleanliness."
This is a questionable assertion.
"The glans itself contains no sebaceous glands-glands that produce the sebum, or oil, that moisturizes our skin.11 The foreskin produces the sebum that maintains proper health of the surface of the glans."
Now turn to Fleiss' 16th reference (see 2). It states: "the mucosal surface of the prepuce is completely free of lanugo hair follicles, sweat and sebaceous glands." If it is completely free of sebaceous glands, how does it produce sebum? Clearly, it does not.
"Immunological Defense: The mucous membranes that line all body orifices are the body's first line of immunological defense. Glands in the foreskin produce antibacterial and antiviral proteins such as lysozyme.12"
Apocrine glands - a type of sweat gland - produce lysozyme, and we know from the above that they are not present.
"Lysozyme is also found in tears and mother's milk. Specialized epithelial Langerhans cells, an immune system component, abound in the foreskin's outer surface.13"
This is true. These cells are responsible for the increased risk of HIV in uncircumcised males. See 3.
"Plasma cells in the foreskin's mucosal lining secrete immunoglobulins, antibodies that defend against infection.14"
This is nothing unusual. They do this everywhere in the body.
"Erogenous Sensitivity: The foreskin is as sensitive as the fingertips or the lips of the mouth."
There is no evidence to support this claim.
"It contains a richer variety and greater concentration of specialized nerve receptors than any other part of the penis.15"
The paper Fleiss cites says nothing of the kind! See 4.
"These specialized nerve endings can discern motion, subtle changes in temperature, and fine gradations of texture.16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23"
Again, the sources do not support the claim.
"Coverage During Erection: As it becomes erect, the penile shaft becomes thicker and longer. The double-layered foreskin provides the skin necessary to accommodate the expanded organ"
The fact that circumcised men get erections is evidence that Fleiss is exaggerating here.
"and to allow the penile skin to glide freely, smoothly, and pleasurably over the shaft and glans."
Yet, in a recent study, 38% of men circumcised as adults reported increased sensation during intercourse, and 44% reported no change (see 5). If Fleiss were correct, then would one not expect different results?
"Self-Stimulating Sexual Functions: The foreskin's double-layered sheath enables the penile shaft skin to glide back and forth over the penile shaft. The foreskin can normally be slipped all the way, or almost all the way, back to the base of the penis, and also slipped forward beyond the glans. This wide range of motion is the mechanism by which the penis and the orgasmic triggers in the foreskin, frenulum, and glans are stimulated."
Again, following Fleiss' logic, circumcised men should not be able to orgasm. This implies that he is wrong.

Hey Andrew I just wanted to point out that circumcision is a hottly debated topic around the world. Both sides have "experts" and neither side is willing to try to see the point of view of the other. What I can tell you is that there are pro and cons to both ends of the spectrum. Another thing I can tell you is that I am circumcised... Now... if I were any more sensitive down there than I am already... I'd be making a mess of myself just walking down the street. Point is do not believe all the hype or the propaganda. Do you own research and find your own conclusion. If nothing else, as long as your plumbing works down there that's all that really matters. There is such a thing as foreskin restoration. But its not something I would take lightly either. If done improperly you could actually damage nerve endings and actually reduce physical senstation. If you try to restore your foreskin I would do so only under the supervision of a doctor. - my humble opinion.

Well as a woman...married 3 times (sad to admit)...first husband circumsized, second not, third is (and it's religious reason for third only)...have to say I prefered the second (NOT circumsized) the most (sexually).
I did not circ my 3 boys...mostly because their daddy was not and because I couldn't bring myself to needlessly cause pain and trauma to my new born baby.
However, now with the third husband, and different religion...my three boys are in a culture where thier uncirc penis will be an issue. It is not cumpolsorary for them to have it done. But will probably need to at some point unless they abandon the culture we have adopted.
SOOOO I worry about how this "mutilation" is going to affect them having to have it done at ages old enough to understand what's happening. Talk about emotional trauma. Mommy takes you to a doctor and has you show your penis to a stranger who cuts part of it off. MAN...I'm not liking this scenerio at all!
Pregnant again, with third hubby's baby...very glad it's a girl JUST SO I DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE!

Thank goodness this mutilating doesn't go on in Europe.
The foreskin has numerous protective, sensory, and sexual functions.
Protection: Just as the eyelids protect the eyes, the foreskin protects the glans and keeps its surface soft, moist, and sensitive. It also maintains optimal warmth, pH balance, and cleanliness. The glans itself contains no sebaceous glands-glands that produce the sebum, or oil, that moisturizes our skin.11 The foreskin produces the sebum that maintains proper health of the surface of the glans.
Immunological Defense: The mucous membranes that line all body orifices are the body's first line of immunological defense. Glands in the foreskin produce antibacterial and antiviral proteins such as lysozyme.12 Lysozyme is also found in tears and mother's milk. Specialized epithelial Langerhans cells, an immune system component, abound in the foreskin's outer surface.13 Plasma cells in the foreskin's mucosal lining secrete immunoglobulins, antibodies that defend against infection.14
Erogenous Sensitivity: The foreskin is as sensitive as the fingertips or the lips of the mouth. It contains a richer variety and greater concentration of specialized nerve receptors than any other part of the penis.15 These specialized nerve endings can discern motion, subtle changes in temperature, and fine gradations of texture.16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23
Coverage During Erection: As it becomes erect, the penile shaft becomes thicker and longer. The double-layered foreskin provides the skin necessary to accommodate the expanded organ and to allow the penile skin to glide freely, smoothly, and pleasurably over the shaft and glans.
Self-Stimulating Sexual Functions: The foreskin's double-layered sheath enables the penile shaft skin to glide back and forth over the penile shaft. The foreskin can normally be slipped all the way, or almost all the way, back to the base of the penis, and also slipped forward beyond the glans. This wide range of motion is the mechanism by which the penis and the orgasmic triggers in the foreskin, frenulum, and glans are stimulated.
Sexual Functions in Intercourse: One of the foreskin's functions is to facilitate smooth, gentle movement between the mucosal surfaces of the two partners during intercourse. The foreskin enables the penis to slip in and out of the vagina nonabrasively inside its own slick sheath of self-lubricating, movable skin. The female is thus stimulated by moving pressure rather than by friction only, as when the male's foreskin is missing.
The foreskin fosters intimacy between the two partners by enveloping the glans and maintaining it as an internal organ. The sexual experience is enhanced when the foreskin slips back to allow the male's internal organ, the glans, to meet the female's internal organ, the cervix-a moment of supreme intimacy and beauty.

i'm glad for you.good for you feeling better.the definition of mutilation is "to render imperfect by damaging or excising a part".the definition of excise ex·cise 2 (k-sz)
tr.v. ex·cised, ex·cis·ing, ex·cis·es
To remove by or as if by cutting: excised the tumor; excised two scenes from the film.the definition of circumcision is."the non-therapeutic amputation of the foreskin"or Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin of the penis. The foreskin is a fold of skin that covers the end (the glans) of the penis. . so put it all together and circumcision is mutilation.

Is this causing problems in your present life, or are you just angry because you had no choice in the matter. If so, I understand. I hope you can move past this, I hope you have a rewarding sex life, I hope this does not bother you in that perspective. We all have things in this life that piss us off, I don't think this is something to go crazy over. If nothing has been compromised, what is the problem?

LOL - fortunately I don't remember the process or what it was like before I was circumcised - I was just a baby. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like, but I don't really dwell on it or lose sleep over it.
Good luck in your quest for emotional healing. LOL

ive also read an article and talked to my son about getting his foreskin back and how to do it. i've apologized to him and thats all i can do. i truly thought it was for his better health at the time and i know im not the only mom who did it for those reasons.

You can also use a penis health creme called Man1 Man Oil to increase sensitivity. It contains a protein called acetyl L carnitine that repairs damaged nerve endings and restores lost feeling. It works very well. It has helped me out bigtime. Hope this helps and good luck.
