What you are experiencing is normal. I was on depo for 2 years. I have to say it was the biggest mistake I ever made in my life. I had very little spotting the first 2 months, but for the entire 3rd month I had excessive spotting, almost like a long but very light 1 month period. It also totally killed my sex drive and made me very cranky after about 6 months.

Depo Provera is unlike other horomonal birth controls because it has no estrogen. Since you don't have a regular cycle, you also produce much much less estrogen, so your total estrogen drops. This explains the crankiness most women experience, and it also contributes to the low sex drive (because without estrogen, your body doesn't prepare for sex properly... no lubrication, limits blood flow to the genitals... makes sex painful!) It also has been shown to contribute to bone density loss, so if you have a history of osteoperosis in your family, this is not the BC for you!

I would highly suggest getting on another form of BC. If you can't keep up with pills, IUDs are a much better choice than depo. Talk to your doctor about it, many of them are starting discourage the use of Depo Provera.

I never heard of someone finding out they were 3 months pregnant with negative test results. I was on the depo shot and couldn't get pregnant for a whole year. It was ridiculous. I didn't have regular periods either. It was a long time after getting off of the shot that i actually got my period. That shot messes up your system. If you keep coming out with a negative results your most likely just experiencing mild symptoms of the shot. I had most of your symptoms when i was on the shot and when i was coming off of it. If you are wanting to get pregnant don't take the depo shot and talk to your doctor. i think birth control pills is the better way to go. Good Luck

Completely normal. I was on the Depo shot for years and the pain will go away. Your body is just adjusting to the shot. I did not have any periods while on the shot which was excellent but let me warn you that when I came off the shot I had a period for 2 straight months, that was not so excellent. Oh, and I also got pregnant while on this shot but had a miscarriage. After that I took one more dose of the shot and decided that obviously it was not that effective on me. Good Luck.

Yes. I was on Depo for 5 years. The same thing happened to me with my first shot. I must say BE CAREFUL! Depo is very convient, but it has a lot of negative side affects-all that I didn't notice until I stopped. I had 2 Biopsies, abnormal paps, and hormonal imbalance for 4 years after wards. Also, I after the first 6 months, my period stopped completely. When I got off of Depo, it took me 4 years to get another one, thanks to the hormone pills.

Normally while on Depo you shouldn't be getting a normal cycle. However the pain in your legs you might want to mention to your doc. I have been on Depo for about 6 years and it really just depends on your body and how it handles the meds.

Some women never get a period. I had it for 3 weeks at a time...and heavy. Everyone is different. There are TONS of side effects concerning this form of birth control. The pain in your legs is normal, as well as weight gain, headaches, hair loss, joint pain, irritability, depression, and loss of sex drive.

Hope the shot works better for you than it did for me.

Extra hormones can mess up you body and make them misbehave. It will take a while for your body to adjust to it.
