Fines vary from state to state. It is a hard ticket to beat if it is just your word against the cops - but very often if you do appear in court they will give you a different charge somehow that doesn't show points, but you still have to pay the fine. In most states the fine is listed on the ticket. If you have an impartial witness (not your own passenger) you might have an easier time fighting it.
Peace!

All these people are stupid. Just because there is a stop sign doesn't mean it should be there. In this case, a stop sign didn't make sense. This guy was not careless or unsafe. He did not threaten the safety of himself or others. In this case, it is just the city earning a paycheck at his expense. Don't get me wrong... I think stop signs are useful in the right places... where there is a blind curve or heavy pedestrian traffic. But a stop at an L turn is more a cash register than a safety precaution. These people need to realize that the law isn't absolute and sometimes has different motives than our well being.

RE:
ticket for "rolling stop" at stop sign?
I got a ticket for a rolling stop at a stop sign... this is my first offence and I am thinking about fighting it at least to try get the points from being put on my licence. How has anybody gone about asking a judge to drop the points? Is there any chance of the charge being dropped? Any body in...

Don't worry, you can fight it.However never tell a cop or judge they were wrong! It never goes well.First, admit your guilt and ask if the judge will wave the points and allow you to just pay the fine. That's all they really want, your money.Tell the judge it was a simple mistake and you are trying to keep a clean record. If th judge asks you how many points you have on your license, don't ever lie.He will have your record in front of him(usually on a monitor).Let him do the talking and be respectful, like talking to a king.Remember, he has your license and can in force the law, until you leave the court room.Come to court at least 45 min. early and listen to the cases before you, it helps to read the judge.good luck.

Here in Florida you can do "Traffic School" and have no points lost. Snag is you can only do traffic school so many times (I think3) in a lifetime, so is a stop sign violation worth squandering one of those times on?

fight it and be totally kind, nice polite and sincere when in court, also look it up and have some facts with you on hand just in case you need to tell the judge you know what your talking about, but tell the judge you built this into yourself when you first started driving and you ALWAYS do it, first find out in your state what the thought of amount of time it is to wait at the sign and then say you have taught yourself to actually sit there and count to yourself.one one thousand, two one thousand and say them deliberately ans slow, until you get to the proper amount of time,, and say you do this ALL the time and you know you did it then too..tell him because of so many people dieing from going trough them you make yourself do this,
then he will most like ly let you off. and make sure you do it from then on out
good luck

One of the sales managers I was training with did this. He got the running stopsign charge reduced to failing to stay to the right. If you show up and the officer doesn't, it could be dropped.

i think its only a real stop if you can count three seconds while your car is stopped.
a good lawyer could get your points down on any traffic violation. but not sure what you could talk this one down on. it sounds like a minor offense anyway.
sometimes best to not even fight it -- takes time and money.
