No. Eighteen is too young to be legal in the bars; many people are still in high school at this age. But 21 is too old. Many people at this age are married with children, have mortgages, and other adult responsibilities. Many countries use the age of 19, and it's a more reasonable number. Enlisting should be the same age.

This is an old topic it has been this way for years so stop complaining. If this is the only problem you have in your life you are doing good. If you are 18 you can not tell me you are not drinking anyway whether you buy it or not. And you must not be fighting in the war if you are on yahoo q&a

I would trust a sober 18 year old with a m-16 over a 18 year old with a bottle of Jack Daniels driving a pickup truck anyday.

Naturally, the common people don't want war ... but after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.

I think that if you are old enough to die for your country, you should be old enough to drink liquor.

Because one has nothing to do with the other. Shouldn't you also be allowed to run for President or the Senate?

If there was a draft you might have a point. But, there's no draft. You have to volunteer for the military. Therefore, you have no point at all.

Boo hoo. Life's not fair.
Its the first of many many many injustices you'll notice in life.
You'll live with ulcers and die miserable if you don't learn to accept it.
