You do need a business license before you can register as a corporation. That is as far as doing business in my country is concerned. Do check out the website of the government branch in your country that takes care of corporate registrations and find out their other requirements. Good luck!

A business must register in the city or county where it operates. It doens't matter what the structure is. Go to you local courthouse and file for a business licence. Visit IRS.gov and apply online for an EIN.

There are no federal corporations. All corporations are created by the individual States according to State law. You'll have to file articles of incorporation with your State Government.

My advise--don't structure your business as a corp right away. The only benifit is reduced liability.

In the process of creating a corporation for around $1000, you receive a tax ID number from the state which is a license. You can just get a small biz license from city hall instead for around $100.

I'm in the US and I own a website.

The business license and the papers you need to file to incorporate are entirely separate. So if you establish yourself as a corporation, then you would get the business license in the name of the corporation.

I have a business license that is required by my city. Since I am a sole proprietor, I don't have to do all the corporate stuff.
