I guess that you could connect on a company network to the mail server. If the server had no internet connection, only internal e-mail could be delivered.
You can work offline as well as others have stated.

Frontpage, excell and calender or notes work without the internet but to email you have to have internet.

You can choose to work offline, but you'll need to connect in order to Send/Receive any messages. Otherwise, they'll just sit in your Inbox and Outbox.

You have to have an internet connection to be able to check ur messages or save them to ur computer.

Of course you can. You can add contacts, and download to different applications like your iPod if you have MO2003.
