I don't understand why everyone thinks the cost of living in SD is so outrageous? Compared to what, Tulsa? I guess. I'm from Thousand Oaks, ca, which is a suburb of LA. I live in the SHITHOLE of the town, which rent is running me 1250 for a one bedroom, and the place is a digrace. The rent in San Diego compared to OC/LA and even SB is extremely affordable. I found rents at the beahes and downtown are extremely reasonable. Same type of places in LA or OC will run you as much as 500 dollars more. Buying may be a diffent story, but i have still found that it is considerably less expensive than up where i am.

I just moved back here from Vegas, where people move really to get out of the cost of living of California, and to find buying opportunities. But once again, the rents in vegas and SD are very similar.

If you are planning on moving to Cali, and want to live coastal, i would highly reccomend San Diego to anywhere else. Don't let the locals tell you otherwise.

Based on Department of Labor surveys, the cost of housing, including utilities, in Atlanta is about 80% of what they will be in San Diego. Food will be more expensive.

I am a Filipino American & stayed in California x 6 months earlier this year. I started with San Francisco where studio type is more than $1,000, in the nearby Contra Costa County rental is almost the same. In San Diego, the apartment just across Paradise Valley Hospital would cost around $700 for a 2 bedrooms. However, in La Jolla, where University of California, San Diego is, rental is $1,000 for 2 bedroom apartment. In El Centro, which is an hour's drive, rental is $900.00++ for a nice 3 bedroom, 2 comfort/rest rooms, garage and backyard house.

I moved to San Diego from San Antonio, TX & my rent is about 3 times what it used to be, and I still make around the same amount.. I spent $4 on a loaf of bread the other day.. and it wasn't even quality bread. I like San Diego, but it is really damn expensive. For the money I am spending here, I may as well go live in one of the expensive capital cities abroad.. and get the culture as well.

Well, I live in SF, which is the most expensive city in the US. So i agree with you.

Dam it's tough to live at these places. I totally agree with you!!!

But actually you're wrong. The cheapest coastal area in Cali is probably Pismo or Salinas. Not San Diego.

Coming from Ga, the rent here is much higher! However the cost of living with all the other bills is lower. So they cancel each other out!

If you want to live anywhere in CA, live in San Diego. San Diego has the lowest house prices. San Diegans have the lowest income of any Californians. :(
