Lets face it, bollywood basically copies the hollywood movies and turn then into bollywood! C'mon?? And on top of that they add their own little twist to make the movie look silghtly different! Now its not right to copy someones work and put your name on it does it?

Bollywood is terrible!!! I know I'm not being culturally sensitive, but COME ON... The plots make no sense, there is singing at ridiculously inappropriate moments, Gods appear out of nowhere, sentimental scenes require crying caused by an onion... Shall I go on?

they are just different. It si really a preference. I think that it has most to do with what you are used to. Some people may find that Bollywood is totally alien. While some may think the same about Hollywood. They really are two totally different animals but on the same medium.
However, most people can find Hollywood movies that they like and most people can find Bollywood movies that they like. It really is just what you are into.
I don't mean to be obtuse about this. To answer it more directly I think that if you are into a lot more song and dance than Bollywood is usually the key (even though there are a lot of action movies that come out of Bombay). That being said it seems like productino value is a little higher in Hollywood (usually) and if you are looking to completely suspend disbeleif when watching a movie than you should stick to the films that come out of Hollywood.
Also consider that Hollywood movies will usually show things like sex and kissing which Bollywood stays away from for legal reasons. Also Bollywood movies are typically in hindi, or any other dialect out of India.

This is my take on it: A movie can't be called a good movie just if is from Hollywood. Residents of USA know how much of crap comes out of the hollywood industry every year. If you are looking at Hollywood from India perspective, you will only happen to see the (commercially) best of hollywood because that is what can make it to India. What you see in India is largely determined by the marketing done by the Hollywood companies in India for their movies. If you are a member of some special interest movie group (who organize private film screenings, festivals etc), chances are better than you can watch some good stuff from Hollywood and films from other parts of the world too. That way you can develop some perspective on the world cinema as such.
The main issue with Bollywood films is this - I would not call as copy - but Bollywood filmmakers depend on existing movies to make movies - rather than making movies from what they learn/observe in life. If you take the inspiration from the same "thing" always, perhaps, you will get the same shades in all of your paintings. If you want to paint something that is unlike the earliers, then you should change the source of inspiration. I can't say all Hollywood writers take "life" as the inspiration, but some pople constantly try this - and their movies end up being different much to the liking of people. Stanley Kubrick (late), Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarrantino, Robert Rodriguez, for example are some of the folks who constantly drew inspiration from unconventional things, and you can see that in their movies. Where as most of the writers here have only one source material: The existing movies. A lawyer writing story of murder trail for movie, a fire engine operator writing a story on fire accident based movies, for example, will not happen with Bollywood industry - but that kind of examples are aplenty in Hollywood industry - that is why some of their movies are authentic at least in execution, if not having a gripping narration.
Hollywood also has a culture of attracting and hiring the best talent - where as Bollywood tries to manage with what they have. I should say things are improving now-a-days in Bollywood too, as there is an uptrend of Corporate style functioning.
Having said that, I will also say - the worlds top movie projects happen in the Hollywood only. The reason is simple. Any innovation with new technology (in Cinema) should first happen there - without witch there is no acceptance. Take any new Film camera with new features - it should first land in Hollywood - and pass the test. Another reason is the world market the Hollywood movie is enjoying. The more market you have for the films, the more you can spend for the production. If your script needs you to hire a military base and 20 fighter-air-crafts for a month's shooting - you should just dump the script - unless yours is a Hollywood project.

There different in two entertainment industy.. and how they show is how they like it.. And it not copy from one movie to another movie.. i have seen a lot of Chinese movies that America Hollywood copy.. BOllywood has it own way of showing.. IF sing and dance show a lot of effect to it.. then what Hollywood movies shows.. I do not think think Hollywood movies is better then any entertainment in this world or from bollywood or from hong Kong.. It they idea.. and you just think they copying why do you think how America is copying other movies too.. I GUESS YOU HAVE NOT SEE HOW HOLLYWOOD COPY OTHER MOVIES IDEA... because i have seen a lot of movies that Hollywood copy other movies There so much... So why do you ask why Hollywood copy so much other culture movies to make new movies..? And if the other entertainment in world make good movies so that why hollywood take the movie and remake it,, and make profit to that copy from another entertainment.. In entertainment they copy each other all time to make good movies and version of them in they cultures.
And It nothing really good about hollywood, They have not come out with really good movies..... Bollywood movie shows meaning and love and happyness... .
I am not big fan in hollywood movies but I do watch it but not big thing for it..
But Bollywood has it own entertainment.. so leave it.. do not think how they copy others.... think of how Hollywood copy other world entertainment movies to make they own...

there was a flood in the area where hollywood movies r made but the directors need not worry for bollywood had copied them all.
hollywood movies r much much great than bollyvood movies as they do not hesitate 2 try something new.
bollywood movies can also be great if they try 2 be original which ther r not.

yes ,they are better, also they are professional as well as production,techno,script are concerned, also they spent to much money an average Hollywood movie spent almost rs. 250-300 crores, in India you can,t even think of it, movies like Titanic budget was 1500 crore approx,where the hell you will get this money in India,
More over the term bollywood is also straight away copied from Hollywood
But believe me India has future .

Most of the bollywood movies are masala based..but Hollywood produces films on various categories
