I would say Toshiba, Sony and Panasonic are all good brands.
Panasonic Tough-book laptops are the most durable laptops.
HP, Compaq, Dell are not highly recommended.

It's hard to say, but Dell is professional and getting a Core 2 Duo laptop with a 7600 Go would fulfill your requirements.

there is no "best" brand. you need to purchase a laptop that meets the needs for "your" use. you can spend $4,000 on an IBM Thinkpad or $800 on a Dell Inspiron.

MY DELL B130 IS ABOUT 2 MONTHS OLD. I GOT WHAT I WANTED FOR FOR WHAT I PAID. 15.4 WIDESCREEN, 40 GIG HARD DRIVE, 512 MEGS MEMORY, DVD PLAYER, READ AND WRITE(BUT ONLY CD'S WHICH IS FINE) 1.7 GIG PROCESSOR AND THE BEST WIRELESS THEY OFFERED WHICH COST $10 MORE. IT COST $555.33 DELIVERED. I COULDNT BE HAPPIER. THEY DO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT ALSO.
