Latitude is measured from the Equator (latitude 0) to the poles (latitude 90 degrees). By the definition of nautical mile, one degree of latitude would be 60 nautical miles (approx. 69 statute miles, or 111.11 km) if the Earth were perfectly spherical.

So, 80 N is 4800 nautical miles from the equator, while 40 N is only 2400 nautical miles from the equator.
