war movies or those epic movies that Hollywood is producing so many of these days? If they do, what do they think about when they watch the bloodshed in these movies? Do you think Hollywood producers suffer any cognitive dissonance after they make movies like this? They must recognize that most American males get off on these movies, since they are so successful.

karlkalisnikov I know what you mean about utility. IMO I think those that are decidedly anti-war will always find a reason to declare a war unnecessary if the US is involved.

FYI: I am neutral about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. I just figure I couldn't possibly know enough to decide where I stand.

Actually, all people are anti-war, even people who unhappily have to fight wars. Nobody likes warfare, it kills and destroys. Even supporters of war are anti-war, the difference they understand its utility, whereas the "anti-war" crowd does not.

Males like violence. It's been like that forever which is why males go into combat. A lot of hollywood directors make horror films with more violence than the war movies. At least Hollywood shows the true horrors of war to the audience now and not make some boy scout John Wayne movie. Now males can see how bad real war is and can scream at their congressman not to vote for unnecessary wars like Iraq.

One big difference between movie bloodshed and actual bloodshed.... you can't even compare the two..

I think most anti-war people can enjoy a war movie, knowing that it's not really happening, but war is a completely different story.

Ha! Anti-war people are actually lazy. They preach peace without taking stock of the issues or historical fact.
Fact- our country was born from war, conflict and fighting!!!.
Fact- if the south won the civil war against the north so long ago, we would still have slaves!!!
Fact: if the world did not fight the WW1 and WW2, we would be a very different world with all whites as rulers, slaves of other races, and Jews cooked!
So what on earth DO they watch...oh, l know re-runs of leave it to beaver, oh wait that's a harmless animal, and they eat murdered meat...l know, they don't.

Most war movies are actually anti-war movies, so Liberals make them and watch them.

Clint Eastwood, well-known Republican, said on Charlie Rose that both Iwo Jima films are anti-war.

It's Republicans like Stallone and Ahnold that make films that glorify violence and war,

Wow, great way to lump all of us men together like that. Just like most women can't drive for sh!t, or most women just see men as a wallet and a set of house/car keys instead of an actual person, right?

I'm anti-war, and I can still enjoy war movies. It's entertainment, not a moral choice.

We have to face the fact that either all of us are going to die together or we are going to learn to live together and if we are to live together we have to talk.
