They say they want to help poor people, but they call poor whites "rednecks." Why would they use such a bigotted, oppressive term?

I don't call them Rednecks I call them ignorant racists jerks, is that bigoted?

I experienced this bigotry firsthand when I moved to the midwest from the deep south. My boss was a psychologist (the worst kind, IMO), and he would refer to "rednecks" often and had a very strong distaste for Texas and anything remotely related to Bush. He let his political views be known at every company meeting (as if we all didn't know). People in the office were offended, because they were pretty moderate.
Another thing that happens a lot is that when people find out I am from the south, they say "I'm surprised, you don't have a southern accent!" Their ignorance becomes loud and clear to me, but I usually just say, "People tell me that a lot", so I wont hurt their feelings. These kind of people have sensitivity about everything, except poor rednecks.

Sometimes. All politicians are racist to some extent, depending on which group of people they expect to draw upon for votes. Bigot one day, racist the next, the fun never ends. P.S.- They would use the term "rednecks" because they don't care about their votes.

I believe most people use that term to refer to people who are ignorant and just plain old fashioned stupid rather than from a racist perspective.

Who are you referring to? I am sure that you could come up with several folks that are bigots regardless of their political affiliation.
I could ask the same of conservatives, should I bring up the "Macaca" incident?

look up the definition for liberal, when one thinks he/she is above or superior than others than yes they are bigots.
