Merry Christmas!

Here are the first part of the lyrics...

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh;
O'er the fields we go,
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtail ring,
Making spirits bright;
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Oh! jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way;
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.
Hey! jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way;
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!

I heard this as a trivia question on the radio the other day.

Extra detail. I have a horse with the same name as the horse in this song. True story. ;)

I hope that you do not say that it is Bob, because that is not his name. When you are riding in a sleigh or a cart, the horse's tail often flies all over the place and sometimes the hair either obstructs the view or even brushes you in the face. The solution to this problem is to Bob the tail. that usually starts with braiding the tail and then forming the tail hairs into a ball. While doing this some times bells are woven into the tail.

The real line in the song is "bells on bobbed tail's ring..."

The horse in the song "Jingle Bells" doesn't ever get called by it's name in the song. Sorry, but unless you are a relative of the songs writer and know of the horse that they were referring to when writing the song I seriously doubt you know the horse's name either.

It doesn't say the horse's name as far as I can remember.

Please divulge...

Oh my gosh. Bless yall's hearts. "Bells on bobbed-tail ring" refers to the fact that people attached bells to the horses tails that were bobbed, as in the tail hair was trimmed, on sleigh rides...
Bob is not the horses name...

He doesn't have one- and no, it's not "Bob".
More trivia-- "Jingle Bells" was actually a Thansgiving song, not a Christmas carol.
