In December.

Interests include bookstores, plays, parks, organic food, good restuarants - what would you recommend about Sparta, even if it's not on the list.
Is there a kennel for boarding dogs there that you'd recommend?
Thanks so much for your time and ideas.

Sparta is one of the smallest towns in all of NC, but also one of the prettiest. Pretty much all of the town is on Main Street, including both restaurants. There are a couple of fast food chains and an oriental place, but as far as regular restaurants, there are only 2 as best I can recall. Sometimes one can catch a bluegrass show there, and there are some places that showcase local artisans and their work is usually for sale. Other than that, Sparta mainly just consists of the things a town needs for the people residing in the surrounding area. There is no Wal-Mart, no big chain grocery store, and no hotel chain. There is one motel providing nice and reasonably priced lodging, the Alleghany Inn. Sparta is a great place to go if one wants to truly get away from EVERYTHING.
