Jeff there are too many sporty's for sale now,you wont be happy.
My first was a sporty and I really liked it,next was a Dyna Super-Glide,and I loved it.Bigger frame means its easier to handle and then there's the bigger motor and better resale. You will be more comfortable on the SG. Add engine guards, windshield and bags and you have a long ride bike if that's what you want,or keep it like it is and you have a Harley chopper.I now own an Electra-Glide standard and My thought was there is alot of bang for the buck here. But most defiantly the super glide is well worth that extra buck.Be Careful!!

Your best bang for the buck would be with the super glide. It's got more power and comfort than a sportster. I have an 88 v-twin in my super glide and love it. A 96 twin will most likely be even better. You mentioned you were a taller individual. I don't know exactly your height but I am 6'3". I found that on my super glide I needed forward controls in order to have a comfortable leg configuration. The stock mid controls were too confining and made the sitting position awkward. Consider the forward controls if you find there isn't enough leg room. Go with the super glide. It's money WELL spent.

If you buy the sportster you will be trading it in within a few months. Its to small of a bike. Buy the Dyna, you will be much happier. My first Harley was a 2000 Deuce which I love.

The new Sportsters are pretty nice (But still a Sportster) .Go for the Dyna. Even my woman outgrew her Sporty and rides a FXR now.We gave the Sportster to the dog(seriously see picture)

You are going to need to make this decision on your own. The average Sportster rider either sells their bike within three years for a bigger bike or parks the Sporty in the garage. Sportsters are quick and fun. But there is something special about the Big Twin motor.

I like my Superglide. If those are your two choices, I think you would be happier with the Dyna. Mine came with the 88 (1450) and I'm really happy with it. I found the stock seat to be uncomfortable, even after 5500 miles on it. I'm certain it's my build though. After I made it fit me, it's a dream. I've got 6700+ miles on the factory Dunlops and lots of tread left. It'll howl like a dog when you "twist" it's tail, and it'll fly like a bat........

If I was you then I would buy a Dyna or Softtail, it will hold it's resale value better than a sportster. Sportsters are a dime a dozen and not very pleasurable to ride.
