This claim was stated as a response to I Walk Funny's question. I have studied the constitution and no where have I even seen something to support this claim. It states religious freedom, yes, but specificly Christiany, I think not. Please people don't start rumors about the founding fathers intent. It makes you look really bad. Could you please get the facts correct so as not to create rumors that may embarass you?

It doesn't. A number of our founding fathers were Deists, not Christians. They believed that nature itself proved the existence of God but did not necessarily believe in what the church preached. I believe the intent of the founding fathers was freedom of religion. Just that simple. A nation of many religious beliefs, or non-religous if that's your preference. Freedom.

Not only is it not mentioned, but specifically excluded as the basis of any type of law or regulation other than stated in the Constitution. Our forefathers recognized the danger of religion and the abysmal stupidly it represents. The hypocritical right wing does too, but they don't care. In that sense, when they try and pass religiously motivated legislation, they are tearing down the country. They're just trying to garner votes from the brain damaged. It's truly disgusting the way they use mentally handicapped people for their own ends. I don't know where people get the idea that this country was founded on religion. It simply wasn't, and was quite the opposite. Most of the founding fathers were malcontents and drunks, that didn't want religion interfering with them or the government they were establishing. That's the truth, and why we have lasted as long as we have.

Actually if you study the works of our founding fathers you'll see that while some were diest, agnostic etc... That the laws of our country and it's founding took place under the basic christian principals. Many love to argue and do it incorrectly I might add that because of the first amendment God has no place in the making of laws or their interpritation. Once again study the works of our founding fathers, there are countless refrences to the Maker (God). Many said without the spiritural guidence of God our country would fail to exist. The purpose of seperation of church and state was to make sure that the government had no voice in how you practice your religion or beliefs. It was never intended to be used to strike prayer from school, take away our countries moral compass on issues such as abortion, assisted suicide etc... If those were such hot button issues why in the world would they have allowed prayer in school from the get go? Why would the swearing in of a President have ended with "SO HELP ME GOD" ? The forefathers had every chance to balk at such "outlandish christian practices" and never once did!!! Why is that?

No where does it say that the USA was established for Christians. You don't have to be a Christian to be an American. You don't have to be a Christian to hold public office.

Now that we have clarified that, let's talk about culture. The culture of Europe and the Americas was based on Christian values. The culture of Iraq is based on Muslim values. There are Christians living in Iraq. There are Jews, Muslims and Hindus living in the US. But the culture is based on Christian values.

There have been forces working for decades to change this. Abortion and homosexuality are both prohibited by Christianity and Islam. Our culture has been watered down by the actions of the Supreme Court, and politicians. The fact that the American public went along with these changes, and in some cases, applauded them, illustrates our slide into moral turpitude.

The attack on our culture is called "multiculturalism". I can't think of a culture that promotes abortion (other than China) or homosexuality. It is a case of sub-cultures undermining the common culture.

The understanding that our rights come from our Creator, and are unalienable, is an impediment to those bent on destroying our rights. That is the real reason behind "multicultralism", the "separation of church and state", and the adoption of the dogmatic belief in evolution, which masquerades as science.

It doesn't.

God does NOT = Christian

They were not all Christians, Catholics, Protestants, Anglicans, Puritans, Baptists, Jews, Quakers, etc.

The founders were children of the Enlightenment - the antithesis of religious dogma. Most were very liberal in their thinking on matters having to do with religion, freedom of expression and belief, or ignored religion completely. That's why they wrote: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

It does not make any mention of religious freedom.
In the preamble, it does mention "Blessed Liberties", which I assume means that, God, or some higher religious figure Blessed the united states with liberties. No, its not a direct mention of god, but its pretty close. It doesn't mention a christian god. It could be any entity that actually blessed us with these liberties. But does it really matter? The constitution doesn't mention gay marriage either. It doesn't mention abortion rights. there are a lot of things NOT mentioned in it. But if you go back into our history, you will find that Christianity was everywhere. Not so much religious fanaticism, but common sense, and good moral character.

For lack of a better word Amen. Especially since some of the founding father's were agnostic bold claim but it is beleived so. Why would they set up a country under a religion when they were trying to escape that same thing haha. It amazes me the power the brain has to not rationalize things just because they dont support the desired product. And anyway even if the constitution did say that. Does that mean it should be a law if it harms tax paying citizens. Just because it was made when the country was. Why should we hold are ideas to someone less advanced then us. Not to belittle the intelligence of are brillaint founding father's cause i highly respect them. And last but not least to add to his question will people stop saying well are money says in god we trust. And are anthemn says under god. These things were added in the i beleive 1960's maybe the 50's.

it doesnt but contemporary documents i.e. the Declaration of Independence do make it clear that the 1st amendment was to prevent the establishment of a government religion as was done in England. However the statement that we hold these truths to be self evident that God created all men equal pretty much says it all because christianity is the only religion that has God as their first cause.

Since there were Deists, Jews, and members of several Christian sects involved, what they legislated was the inability of Congress to impose a religion on the people. Nothing more, nothing less. They cannot ESTABLISH a national church.
