I used to call them curb indicators, not sure exactly what the term is supposed to be.

Idiot lights. It's supposed to give the driver an idea of where the the wheels are in retrospect to what ever is front or to the side of him to keep him or her from hitting curbs and other trucks etc.

Terry the things your talking about are called curb feelers but they don't have lights and they don't put them on big Riggs. Just thought you should know

They are there to show the driver where his bumper is in proportion to an object (building or pole,etc.) in order to avoid hitting the object.
The lights were added to make it look classy.

They're called "bumper guides".

They are called bumber guides. They aid in locating the front of the vehicle. They are also available aftermarket for many cars and come from the factory on cars in foriegn countries.
