do you think that Lily Potter was an animangus and is actually Crookshanks in disguise??? any thoughts?

Good theory, but I think it is a bit unlikely. Lily Potter has appeared as a "ghost" figure to Harry (in the mirror and from his wand), so if she were an animagus, she would not be able to be a "ghost" because you have to be dead to appear in that form. In other words, she couldn't be Crookshanks AND appear out of Harry's wand at the same time.
Although, I've always wondered what the hell is up with Crookshanks - freaky little cat - I've never trusted her.

I think I remember JKR saying on her website once that we'd find more about Crookshanks in the Comic Relief books (Quidditch Through The Ages, and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them). The only thing that fits Crookshanks, if if he is a kneazle.

Sounds like the premise of a fanfiction.
In response to Shodan and Hershey in regards to Crookshanks' backstory - Crookshanks is half kneazle, which accounts for his ability to notice suspicious people and his general nastiness. It's stated in Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them, the short book released a few years back.

If you have read the books then you know that this is not possible. Lily died for Harry and thus the reason he survived the death curse. However I would like to know if their is some back story to crookshanks.

Jo has confirmed that Lily Potter is dead. Therefore, she can not be Crookshanks.

It is imposible for Lily potter to be Crookshanks because she is dead. Voldemort killed her!!!

Interesting theory but there's been nothing to lead one toward that path of belief...or are you going on the idea that if the rat was actually someone in disguise, the cat could be also?

I dont think so. Lily Potter sacrficed herself to save Harry from Voldemort, that could not have happened unless she died.

no, i believe that sadly Lily is truly gone i am not sure whether she was an animagus but i doubt that she was crookshanks.
