I'm trying to put together a mix of the best indie/alternative/garage rock/punk rock songs for a party, so if you could post your top 5. indie/alternative/college/punk/garage rock etc. (i.e. The Cure, The Smiths, Le Tigre, The Faint, etc.)

One of my favorites is a female artist named Anna Waronker, rough-gritty-and brilliant. Another would be Ani DeFranco or Beth Orton, Electric Six (they do that song "Let me take you to a gay bar" - awesome brit band), Ladytron are pretty cool, Nouvelle Vague (do weird covers of 80's new wave) and Covenant, Thievery Corporation, Flesh Field.......Oh, and Lene Lovich and Nina Hagen - totally freaky dinosaurs resurrected from the 80's.

k u gotta have the decemberists, the bright eyes, sufjan stevens, kaiser chiefs,tally hall, and god there are so many more! i just love indie rock!
