Well, you could probably argue that there isn't really a short answer to that question, but...
Greek art was very popular in Rome, and copies of Greek Classical statues were always in great demand with the upper classes (this is how we come to know so many vanished Greek masterworks). The young affluent Roman would most likely have been well read on the Greek philosophers, mathematicians and historians, and he most likely would have had a very good knowledge of Greek myths and legends. Romans took a lot of inspiration from the Greek arts, using them as a sort of template for what art should look like, and there is ample evidence that the Roman love for all things Greek extended to the style of Roman poetry, prose and rhetoric. Of course, Romans also looked back to the Athenian Greek Democracy that had existed pre-Hellenistic world-wide explosion for a sort of "parent" culture for the young Roman Republic, and there was a great interest in all things that hearkened back to that "golden" democratic era.
