what does a mucus plug look like? Does it always have to look like snot? I've been having a discharge that actually looks like ***, kinda clearish, is that just a discharge or could it be my plug--I'm 37 weeks

It could be your mucus plug or just discharge. My mucus plug had a big of blood in it and it was fairly runny. It actually (this is gross) fell out down my leg when I was lifting it to get my pants on. I about threw up. But then I realized what it was.

Either way, it's not something to worry about...and maybe your baby will come soon!!!! :)

Good luck!!!!! And congrats!

mucus plug can be anything from a chunk of mucus that you lose all at once or you can have a slick discharge that lasts for days. Some women don't even notice it! It was different for me with all four of my pgs. Generally, though, your discharge becomes blood-tinged when it is mucus plug. Also, you can start losing your plug starting as early as 36 weeks. It is an indicator of dilation.

Sounds like just discharge. Mine came out when I went to the bathroom and it was this huge more formed mucus clot with blood in it. Trust me it does not look like discharge at all. It was pretty grose. Unfortunately I did not have my baby for another 2 1/2 weeks after that! Congrats and good luck to you!

It could be a regular discharge, or your plug. You are close to delivery. The best way is for your doctor to check. Sometimes it is cloudy with a little brown color in it. The mucus plug is very thick, congealed looking and sticky, sometimes smells. Talk to your doctor. congrats & good luck!!

At 37 weeks I'd be sure to Call your Doctor. While I've not had a child, you do not want a dry birth which means the plug and mucas are gone. If this just happened or your water breaks DO NOT SHOWER....go immediately to the hospital as they need to check the fluid for certain things. I know my good friend made that mistake and had a terrible time of it. BETTER SAFE than sorry with your child & your health. Congrats & good luck - let us know.

Having baby #6...I spotted the mucas plug witht he first two children, but missed it with the last three. It was thick, white with a pink/reddish tint on the tip...I don't think I could've mistaken it for muscas or dishcarge...it was pretty eveident what it was.

BTW with the first baby...labor began the following day...with the second...within 15 minutes.

I think it came simultaneoulsy with contractions and water breaking on the last three, so I think that's why I missed it.

Good luck!

It is probably just discharge. most women experience a lot of discharge towards the end of pregnancy...even if it is your plug, you don't need to worry. many women lose their plug weeks in advance. it doesn't mean that you are dialating, it just means that your cervix is softening. I lost mine around 36-37 wks, and I wasn't dialated at all, just efaced. I had my son at about 38 1/2 wks..... Good Luck and congrats!

When my plug came out it actually felt like a "pop" feeling and it looked more like a jello like substance...not runny...jello-ee. Also, if you lost your mucus plug you will know cuz you will trickle water slowly (like I did)...or a big ol' splash (as in "water breaks") I was a slow leak and did not know it and then started contractions. When I got to hospital I was at bedrest as they said I had hardly any water in the bag as it must have been a slow leak for a few days. Then I went to bathroom at hospital and that is when the plug came out. So that was a bit different. The plug came after the water slowly leaked. Best to you and may your delivery be quick , healthy and wonderful. Take care and congrats, in advance!!! (KEEP ALL POSTED!!)
